Hand Brake switch broke..what now?

OK, so i have now realized that the brake light does not come on when i use the hand brake on my 1997 Sprint, i think the switch has gone bad. Can someone help me with the part number and how to fix this issue.

Thanks

If you are going to get it from a dealer, they will be able to figure out the part number. If you go the bikebandit route, they have an on line parts fische.

The second part of your post asks how to fix the issue? How can we offer any suggestions when you don't tell us what you've already checked. We don't know if you've even checked the bulb, or power to the bulb, or the switch continuity, etc. Or are you wanting an extensive trouble shooting plan?

Sorry, you are right, I have not explained what I have done. The bulbs are fine, the foot brake works and lights up. It is when I squeeze the hand brake that it does not light up.

As far as checking anything else, I don't even know where to start looking. Can someone give me a clue as to where to look? Also what am i looking for? A switch, a relay??sorry, I just am not a bike mechanic, I work on jeeps and trucks.

Thanks

Also what is bikebandit. Talk to me like I am a third grader.

Just for future reference, questions about pre-'99 Sprints belong in the T3 forum.

The switch in question does go bad fairly frequently. It's located on the underside of the lever perch, & it's interchangeable with several Kawasaki models including the Ninja 250. ('87-'07, not sure if the new one this year uses the same switch.) Also, of course, interchangeable with any of the other Triumph 900 triples & 1200 fours from the same era.

2020154-T0301 is the Triumph part number & 27010-1170 is the Kawi p/n. Note that the retail price on the Kawi part is actually 71 cents higher than the Triumph.

Cheers, HTH,
-Kit
