95 daytona 900 won't start
Hi I have had this daytona for three and a half years, and it has been very reliable.Untill about 6 months ago it became hard to start, and would not idle untill warm. Then went to go for a ride and it would not start. The battery has been checked and is all good, I removed the air box and filter was stuffed {bike has done 36000 miles}. found a replacemt after lots of looking.Did not check coils, but did replace spark plugs and bike fired up, went for a good ride, then went to start two days later and would not start. this was 4 weeks ago and still not hav'n any joy. Love this bike and have done some big trips two up loded with gear and had no issues. So Im thinking it is nothing to seriuos. But has got me stumped. Cheers for your help.

Clean the Spade end connectors to the coils. Though it is possible that your crankshaft sensor has failed. You've checked all the safety switches, like the clutch and the side stand cut outs. All your vacuum lines are good? If she runs and starts to stutter turn the petcock to prime and open the filler cap - could be the tip over valve! Do a search of this site.

The valves should have been checked/adjusted at 12000 miles. It's not too hard to do if you just take your time. Do you have a manual?

My experience with valves, if out, on the t3 is..they can be a pig to start from cold, but seem to be ok after, once the engine is warmed up. Worth checking. My bike running/starting great since having valves re-shimed. A good battery is vital with this engine. I tried new plugs, leads, cleaned coil connections, new air filter(k&n),fuel additives, inlet rubbers(fit Trident ones if changing, shorter and easier to remove/fit carbs) etc,but valve job cured problem. PS.,Worth screwing out idle mixture screws 2.5 turns if carbs removed,as suggested by tripcyl, bike runs better at low revs. Your problem sounds more electrical if bike started ok last time? Check connection to oil pressure sensor?

Hi yes Seumas I do have a manual and after reading threepots reply will get the valves checked. It's winter over here at the moment so good time to do these jobs.Air box got here today but it is for a 1200. Order a replacemt filter get a new air box with filter.Local triumph dealer said can't get just a new filter for this model. have to buy air box {what't with this?}but not to bad at $160 NZ dollars.Threepot thanks again as it sounds like I am having the same issues as bike became hard to start cold after coming back from a 4000km trip last xmas.
Thanks very much to everyone for there time.

The dealer is correct; Triumph never offered a filter separate from the airbox assembly. It is possible to take the airbox apart & clean the air filter. I believe the airbox assembly is spec'ed for replacement every 24,000 miles. If I ever get the Trident running again, I plan to clean the filter every 6k & replace on schedule.
Cheers,
-Kit

Seat Cowl
Hi Tiger 2
There are a couple of places you could try for a seat cowl close to home. Tim at VGC Spares (Hinckley triumph breakers) in Auckland email triumph@vgcspares.co.nz, or you could try Eurobrit in Melbourne who I have bought parts from. Failing that Triumphant or Sprint in the UK could probably supply. For some one who is a good fibreglass fabricator its probably not too hard to make one if you can borrow one for a mold. Be interested to know how you get on.
Cheers KiwiGeoff
