Engine Paint....and stripping

Hi paint experts.

Silver/Grey paint on the engine casing is looking a little tatty in places.

Is it special heat proof paint ?

Any special application requirements ? It doesn't appear to be primed!

Is it a stock item in the UK or do I have to get it from Triumph ?

And...I'm restoring the Givi rack which came with the bike. Some parts are aluminium. I've stripped the easy to reach areas with wire brushes but am planning to use paint stripper to do the rest. So my final question is, will the paint stripper damage the aluminium parts ?

thanks in advance

Simon

As a general rule, paint stripper is safe on metal. (It's almost always a carcinogen that destroys anything biological on contact, but it's usually okay on metal.)

AFAIK, the engine paint is not available from Triumph & there's not much you can do about it. Individual covers can be removed & powdercoated, but it's a bit difficult to do that with the cases....

Maybe someone else has a better idea?

Cheers,
-Kit

the covers on my engine are in a right state, i was planning on stripping them and then re spraying them with high build vinyl paint.
im a blacksmith and thats what i use to paint any wrought iron stuff i make. its a satin finish and very durable, i dont think the heat that the clutch case etc get to will affect it, but time will tell.
ill post pics when i get round to doing it, which will be next time i drop the oil.
justin.
