suspension upgrade, advice?

hey all, i haven't chimed in here for a while but my speedy is running fantastically(especially after a much needed tune-up) but now i am thinking of a new rear shock and some new springs up front.

WP look very attractive, i also know of hagon and obviously ohlins but what i'd like to know is what everyone else is running? ive read mot's thread about his ohlins gear(very helpful site you have btw) but what else is out there for the t3's? also, how long did some of you run the old shock before binning it?

any advice would be killer, cheers!

hedgy.

G'day hedgy,

I'm still on the original shock at 73,000kms and its pretty much shagged. I would love an Ohlins or even a Hagon but the budget doesn't allow for it, so my plan is to have the original one rebuilt.

Theres a guy here in Sydney who is a whiz with shocks, he can open them up and recondition the whole thing, set it up with a correctly weighted spring and put it back together so that it is serviceable for ever more.

His quote to me was $350-400, depending on weather the rod needs re-chroming.

He told me that the original shocks on these things are actually quite good and he can improve them out of sight.

Anyway, thats what I'll be doing and I'll probably give him the forks for upgrade as well.

Cheers,

Roden

I have a Wilbers on the back of mine. Installed it last year, just after I got over to Germany, so it must have been around the 30,000 mile mark. IRC it set me back about €400 with remote preload. I'm happy with it.

I have an Ohlins shock at the rear and Ohlins springs at the front with RaceTech Gold Valves.

As many of you well know and are tired of hearing, I have many modifications done to the engine and suspension of my Super III. That being said, the best bang for the buck was the suspension mods. The better suspension transformed this bike. You will not be disappointed by putting your money in suspension mods.

thanks for the input guys.

roden, it's good to hear that the stock gear is good enough to warrant a recondition but my trouble is finding someone this far south to do the work so all new stuff is tempting. id be keen to hear how it goes with you though.

definitely agree with you, hinckley, i think money is best thrown at the chassis before any other mods.

this is what i got quoted for W.P. gear from a performance shop in aukland.

pro-line fork springs - $260
emulsion rear shock - $1095
fusion - $1595

im pretty certain i dont need 16 clicks of high and low speed compression damping adjustment so the base emulsion would suit me. sounds about right pricewise too.

thanks again guys.

Hedgy.

Hi Roden,
Could you post up details on the suspension bloke. I might have to get the Daytona shock done soon.

Hi Bernie,

The guy to talk to is Sean O'Sullivan, SOS Suspension at 7/9 Abel St Penrith. Ph 02-47325533 or 0412245176. Fax 02-47215277. ...

I can't find a website for him but here is a link to an article in Rapid Bikes...

www.rapidbikes.com.au/modified_sean.php

I have spoken to him and he sounds like a real decent guy and his write ups are good. He did the suspension on S&R Pro's 500hp Busa...

Cheers,

Roden
