Appreciating S3
Hi all,
In the past couple of weeks while I've been searching out parts and asking questions about my 95 Speed Triple, I've heard it said a few times that these bikes are becoming collectible and sought after. True you rarely see them advertised for sale here, but it got me wondering, is this the case world wide, or just here in Australia where we don't see a lot of early S3s.
Are S3s going up in value around the world? US,UK EU?

True they are becoming less & less common, up in value...well maybe..they say the same in the UK but really when a bike is worth between 1.5K-2.5K depending it's not really up in value as in an investment..??
The real value is in owning a bike that gives real world thrills, excites & has soul....looks pretty blooming good too ;-)
The main advantage that I have seen (probably because I'm here in blighty) is that stuff is now being broken on a regular basis, thanks to the modular design of the earlt Trumpets that's good news, so parts are available second hand as oppossed to through the stealership all the time.
But the long and short of it is the T3 S3 was the pick of the bunch from the early line up and yes they will be the ones that people want..soo prices should stabilise and maybe even go up a bit, I doubt they will reach silly money for another 10 years though !!

sadly, the value hasn't seemed to hold very well the last year or so, but as said before, I don't ride it for the value, I ride it for the
nada lists a 95 Speed Triple at $1900 to $2500. KBB shows suggested retail at $3700. I use KBB when I'm selling and NADA when I'm buying.
surprisingly, eBay shows no completed sales on 1995 Speedy's. The only one I found even remotely close was a 1999 that sold for $3200.
cycletrader has a 1995 orange one listed at a dealer in NC for $4000 with 36K miles on it. I'd be real interested to see what he ends up selling it for.
It could be a challenge if you totaled one and got in an argument with the insurance co. I'm sure they'd push NADA value.

I was just reminded that you never, ever know how the insurance companies work....
My '04 Sprint RS was just up for insurance evaluation. KBB says it's worth $5080 retail. NADA doesn't acknowledge that Triumph made the RS in '04, but says an '03 is worth $3,515-$4,609. Progressive put the value at right about $6k.
BTW, I'm not likely to go back to Geico!
Cheers,
-Kit

You know, here in Oz and I think Sydtrip might back this up, guys are asking and getting $7k up for T3 S3's and our dollar is very close to the greenback. That gives you some idea of the desirability of these bikes here.
There is one on bikesales at the moment for over $10k. Admittedly it is very low mileage and looks very sweet but it is a 12-13 year old bike. I bet he gets the money, in fact, if I could afford it, that S3 would be mine.
Cheers,
Roden

Yes Roden I saw that 15,000km S3 on Bikesales and if it's a good as the km indicate it would be worth the $10K. I saw another one in a trader mag advertised for $12K but who knows if they ever get that. High km S3s here get $6-7,000 but you don't see them advertised often. Sounds like there could be some bargins in the US.
True what MOT said about the interchangabilty of the modular components, it makes keeping it on the road easier.
I've had mine for around 6 years and it's a keeper, although I would like a low kms one in really good condition.
Riding to work this morning, cold clear day, 3rd gear overtaking, that sweet howl as the tach swung around the dial, you could never part with it.

mine has 25K km/16K mi, garaged. For $7K, USD, I could be persuaded.
I bought mine in Nov 06 with 5,800 km/4,000 mi on it.

These Speed Triples are modern day classic motorcycles. Produced '94 -'96 in a modern world of aluminum frames, fuel injection, gear driven cams and other sophisticated gadgetry, Triumph utilized the best aspects of older, proven technology. Such blending yielded a performance and character. A character which I feel best bridges the gap between older and newer generations of riders and machines. An honorable link to both history and the future.
Time for another beer now...

I bought my 800 mile Speed Triple for $3900 three months ago. It now has 2000 miles on it.
