Dead Tach

Hi all...

when I went to dyno the S3 the other week a screw fell out of the tach face this then danced around rubbing paint off the botton of the face...I thought to myself aahh well I know they all break sooner or later and mines heading for 50K so it's lasted better than most...today it finally shoved off it's mortal coil with the needle sticking at 6.5K..

Phoned Sprint Manufacturing to see the possibility off second hand but he wisely and fairly I suppose won't supply used...mainly because I suppose it's asking for grief to supply something you know is going to break !!?

So I do a search on here for alternatives but as soo many of you have done before realised there is not really an answer....plenty of the same generic clock but all slightly different...plenty sneaky Mr Bloor..

So I ordered new...how we both laughed at the new price, my voice went a bit squeeky as I said "yes order it"....good job they have a coffee machine and a place to sit down in the dealers..!

Although at 200 quid I might have expected Mr Bloor himself to turn up with one in a presentation case and fit the thing too....;-)

I can't even phone the police.. as I have no bruises to show I've been mugged..

Still smiling
Mot

dead tach

the tachs on the old xs650 did that, sealed unit, no locktite on screw. I drilled a hole in the face over the screw hole, and fished it out with a magnet. then with some loctite on the screw, I put it back with a magnetic screwdriver. a cut off .22 caliber fired case glued in the hole and a customized tach is born.
I wish I could get hold of that japanese engineer that designed the thing and shake him till things fell off. things should be repairable, not sealed with screws visable, but not touchable inside.
