Scott Oiler?

My 95' Speed Triple has a Scottoiler fitted to it, I know nothing about these things but the plastic cylinder vessel looks empty. Do I have to put Scott Oil in it or can I use a more generic type of oil? Also, how does one refill the darn thing? Thanks!

Hi, They are a great device when properly installed and set up. You should only use Scottoiler oil. Have a look at www.scottoiler.co.uk and you can find a wealth of information and downloads too. HTH

any oil will do in my experience, its a good way to recycle old engine oil (if you havent got white wheels).

Actually, I found their website rather lacking in information. I would like to see some pictures of how you refill it and operate it.

Click on http://www.scottoiler.co.uk/support_fitting.asp and then you can download the manual which will tell you all you need to know.

If you are one that likes a clean bike, I wouldn't use it. I have never seen one installed on a bike that wasn't filthy with the sling off the chain. I could be wrong. And I'm sure I will be corrected, but I have not seen one used on a clean bike.

Disagree mate, they are the best bolt on accessory you can fit.Any oil around the bike will attract road dust, its a small price to pay for improved chain life. How do you lube your chain?in my experience the spray on lubes are worse for messing up the rear wheel.

I use BelRay chain lube. It works great and does not sling off.
I never said that the Scotoiler didn't work as intended, I simply said I have never seen on fitted to a clean bike.

I understand that there are many who like the Scotoiler, I'm just not one of them. My bike is more than simply transportation to me. I enjoy it looking nice and I'm not out to set any records on how long I can make a chain last. The people at D.I.D have got to eat too.

Well said Hinkley. I'm all for lasting parts, but there is something to be said about a clean bike. I've always lightly used a chain wax and have been pleased with both its performance and lack of grime. I've put close to 20kmiles on it and so far so good.

To each his own but no scottoiler for me. Ever. Something about the words
"automatic" and "motorcycle" just don't go together.
