Seat Issue 95' Speed Triple

I managed to install my seat with only the right hand rear bracket engaging with the left one still above it's recess. It did "click" into position like normal but now I find that my seat is at a slight angle because the left bracket didn't engage. Ok no problem I thought, just turn the key and disengage and try again. Problem is the key won't turn now, like I have buggered it up because both brackets aren't engaged. Do I put more pressure on the key than I normally would? Don't want to end up with a broken key. HELP!

Roy,
Don't turn the key too hard, it'l break. May need to get someone else to push down real hard on the seat just above the latch to release the preasure while you turn the key to unlock. That should do it.

Thanks ervdrvr1, I'll have my roommate sit on it when I try to disengage.

If it comes down to it, you can remove the seat lock with a #3 Phillips. Ask me how I know.

The mechanism in the seat lock is made of Nylon & really isn't very durable. I ended up removing the cable from the lock & zip-tying it to the frame behind the lock. It looks like the seat locks, but pulling on the cable is what actually releases it.

Cheers,
-Kit

Agreed Kit. The plastic/nylon inner lock pieces is garbage- I've gone through two of them and finally given up.

I also have the fake lock- the cable isn't connected to the lock instead a zip tie is wrapped around the bulb end of the cable for easy pulling.

Anybody have any other ideas for locks? I've looked into a few generic cable locks but nothing fits the stock opening...

With two of us pressing down on the seat we managed to reduce the tension enough to turn the key. Thanks fellas!
