bleedin' rear caliper

having a nightmare trying to bleed rear brake after fitting new braided line. is it common for this to be a pain in the arse?
after 20 mins gave up doing it the normal way and got a big syringe full of fluid, connected this to the nipple and squirted it in. fluid level went up in the res so i know it got through, but there is still no movement at the caliper when i press the pedal...and if i undo the nipple just a dribble come out..
i was wondering if its possible to get an air lock at the banjo pressure switch thing.
any tips?
cheers
justin

Try sucking the fluid through with the syringe..then bleed in the normal way for a bit...repeat until you have noraml travel at the lever.

I use a Mitivac which makes life very easy.

Priming the system normally can be a bit of a pain though..****!!

The trick I use to bleed the brakes is as follows:

* Sneak into the bathroom or the kitchen and steal the pump from the handsoap container, without the wife catching me.
* Attach a length of 1/8" hose from the bleeder to the pick-up tube of the handsoap pump.
* Being sure to keep the fluid level at a safe depth, open the bleeder and pump the handsoap pump until fresh clean fluid comes from the caliper.
* Bleed as normal.
* Deny any knowledge of where the handsoap pump could be.

This has worked great for me.

Thanks, Hinckley! Not only does it sound like it would work, but it was funny & I really needed a laugh!

Outstanding there Hinckley - most inventive indeed. I use a Mityvac - it's ok but I can never get a good seal at the nipple/tube - it always sucks air when I don't want it to - obscuring the other bubbles, if you get my drift. Those 'one way' nipples sound good - speed bleeders. that them!

Thats a beaut idea Hinkley, its in the memory bank now and if my wife catches me nicking the pump from the hand soap bottle, I'll blame you!

Cheers,

I good friend of mine told me about the trick. I know, it sounds crazy. The first time I tried it I felt kind of stupid, but the result was proof positive. It does work.

Just so y'all know, spousal interference can probably be eliminated with a trip to your local 99-cent store.

I too use a Mytivac, I also put ptfe tape around the thread of the bleed nipple stops all those unwanted air bubbles.
