If I had the chance to ride from the UK to the Ukraine, I wouldn't really mind.

I get anywhere from 24-40.

24 being a knob. 40 being the sensible father of 2 with a wife and mortgage.

I average about 28........................

Yup I'm falling into the knob category..although in my defense the roads round here are twisty country stuff...you can hit the ton a few times but most of it is brake and on the gas hard....your honour.

Pardon the ramble but...

To complicate it all, isn't a UK gal different from a US gal? Though in the UK it's gone metric!
I remember the Leyland Mini Metro - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Metro when it was introduced, part of it's charm(sic) was it's economy - 55mpg @ 55mph or something like that! So stateside 30mpg is actually staggeringly economic - http://www.automotive.com/fuel-effic...mpg/index.html - I say that because those figures stated are are always overly optimistic, think averaged!? - though the Metro on a good day was 1275cc, today's economy cars are somewhat more substantial, everywhere! Weight being the issue and size matters of course .... it will be interesting what will change because of all this - (cost per mile) - car size surely and hopefully new design perspectives will emerge. Maybe we could all end up having a family T/rex sort of thing, powered by a Triumph triple or 4 http://www.t-rexvehicles.com/ 4 seater version perhaps and not as performance biased - most people would be happy with a Camry's level of behaviour. Therefore 'make the size matter' - but in a way one would be happy with, ie small, cool vehicles! Blah blah blah......! So really 30mpg ain't bad by our standards, over here at least as the advertising is to be believed. But these bikes are 'relative guzzlers' - sort of a fun to gallon ratio, sort of thing! Burp!%£@!%$£@1 (sic)...... have a poignant memorial day folks, and I mean that in a goodway! Enjoy! And think sideways!

Last time out on my Sprint, I went 123 miles on 2.3 gallons; a little over 53 mpg. I was a bit surprised, but then again, I don't ride very fast and these were pretty much cruising miles. Usually I get around 45 commuting to work.

That's about what I get so you're right on target. The worst I've gotten was 29 mpg but with recent tune up (air filter service, fuel filter element & plugs replaced) I'm now getting around 35 mpg. Saddle bags, taller windshield, sit up riding position & jet kit have all conspired to bring my mileage down from the mid 40's it got when I bought it 10 years ago to mid 30's it gets now.

I tend to get 150 miles before the fuel light comes on, unless I'm ploughing down the autobahn at full tilt. Then it comes down to about 120. Really should try and stay off those autobahns.

Sprint Exec. w/panniers

Just finished a 195 mile run....filled up with 3.9 gallons (US) for a solid 50 mpg. Most of the run was at 70++ mph, NOT taking it easy. I've got a taller Rifle shield on mine and bags....had around 25kg of gear on board as well. A 900 cc engine should get around 50-55 mpg easy. I'm getting ready for a 250 mile ride (each way) and hope to get 52-53 mpg. Bike is a Sprint Exec. with panniers. Light comes on around 200 miles to 215 miles.....at that point I need to dump in around 4+ gallons.
