If anybody actually knows how many Super IIIs were made, they're not saying. That being said, it seems likely that there were fewer than 1000 in the US & fewer than 2000 worldwide.

As far as choosing between the D12 & the Super III, it would be no contest for me. Triples rule!

Cheers,
-Kit

Although I love the triples, a D12 is on my wish list. Of course, that's all I need; another bike I can't find parts for.

Yea, a Super III would be nice, but a D12 SE would be nice also, and rarer still.

A couple of years ago, after having track-prepped my Triple, I got the chance to use my buddy's Daytona 1200 SE to get back home. It was about 30 miles, so I got a decent chance to lean on her.

Before I left, my buddy put his arm on my shoulder and said these words exactly - "she'll change you" - almost as if it were a warning.

He was right. It didn't take long for me to feel like DeNiro in Taxi Driver - "you talking to me?". That thing was stOOpid fast. In fact, it was scary fast.

But that's all that was different. For me, it lacked that Triple "je ne sais quoi".

Between the two - I'd have to go Daytona triple as opposed to Daytona four, and the fact that it's the Super III version is an added bonus.

I've had mine for 10yrs and love it. Still put's a smile on my face Not ridden a 1200 Daytona but a Trophy. It was ok,but.........in-line 4's don't really do it for me,but the Daytona could be different? I do like the black SE version though.
I think the S111's were in production for 3 yrs,150 per year???

Motorcycle news had a thing on the super111 as a future classic last week and in it they say there were only 300 made.
As Ive got a super111 and a 1200se I feel I should comment on which is best.
The 1200se is fantastic for high speed touring (south of France in a day thats 1000miles) and "oh sh#t" acceleration that even after 4 years still gets the blood flowing.
Even though Ive not ridden my super111 much there is a definate improvement on the 900 daytona both in power and handling plus there is that thing about triples that cannot be explained.
Both have got those fantastic 6 pot brakes that will stop you as quickley as you can hold on even on a bike as heavy as the 1200.
Both are limited editions which are becomeing future classics.
So in summary it all boils down to what do you like best yellow or black?
