clutch push rod seal

i have engine oil coming from the clutch slave cylinder tell tale, so i assume the clutch push rod seal has gone. do i get to this by removing the sprocket cover or is it more in depth?

Justin,
Are you sure it's engine oil and not hydraulic fluid? The slot at the bottom of the clutch slave cylinder is to release hydraulic fluid witch would indicate a piston seal. Engine oil leaks tend to come out the bottom of the sprocket cover and could be the clutch rod seal, countershaft seal or shift shaft seal, and yes, you would have to remove the sprocket cover to get to them.

only leaks when the engine is running, and it feels amd smells like engine oil.
i was hoping that it was just a case of sprocket cover off and not anything serious.
ill get a seal ordered.
and a gasket.
and a gear change shaft seal.
and some oil.
and a filter.

Clutch push rod seal

I had this happen on my 98 Sprint Sport. Turned out to be a fairly inexpensive procedure to replace the seal. The dealer said the trick was to freeze the new seal so it could be replaced without removing the cover.

this has gone on my aprilia and suzuki, it's a small seal with a spring band within it, the slave is removed and the old seal gently prized out with a screwdriver and the new seal pushed in with a flat circular surface (like a large enough socket head) and the job's done.
