How cruel is fate!?!?!?
HI all

sorry i haven't been on here at all for the past several months. Although i am a newbie to the forum, I had great intentions of getting a 1996 speed triple and becoming more of a regular to the forum. unfortunately plans to buy the bike of my dreams went south big time when my (then) pregnant wife was diagnosed with breast cancer (back on november) one and a half months before our second child was due. to say it knocked the wind out of our sails is a massive understatement. Donna is self employed so for the first few months we were looking under the sofas, behind the cabinents for any change that had gone walkies because we were practically penniless because donna wasn't and still isn't able to work due to her cancer treatments. I bring in a reasonable salary each month, but it was barely enough. fortunately donna is now getting money from a few insurance companies so thats a good thing, but money is still very tight...

Last night I went on biketrader to see what speed triples were on there, just to torment myself and unfortunately I found this:

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...=&max_mileage=

Now, I'm not an expert but that appears to be a 94 -95 bike but registered in 2000. with only 4,100miles on the clock and they are only asking for £2,399 for it... Well needless to say I am even more depressed now than i was!

Although, as I told myself as i was driving to work this morning... I'll get one eventually.

Eoghan

you dont want a nasty motorbike mate, you want a nice little car you do....
thats the same as mine, 750cc not 799cc as advertised.
i paid £900 from ebay for a '96 model. been a lot further than that one but not far enough to warrant that price difference.
ive seen a couple of 900s go for a grand or just over, just needed a bit of tlc.

already got a nice little car - honda accord tourer - feckin huge boot for the all the kiddie stuff we have to lug about.

didn't realise that it was a 750. I kept forgetting about that version. i keep my eye on ebay all the time. but at the moment, the complete lack of funds is killing me.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife Eoghan, I hope everything goes well for her.
Hey, what did you have, is all well with your newborn?

If I found a Speed Triple of that caliber, for that price here, I would pounce on it.
That equates to just under $5,000AUD. A Speedy in that nick with the low miles would be selling from 9k up here in Sydney. It amazes me that you can get these machines for that money.

Keep the positive vibes going mate,

Cheers,

Roden

Bollox to the bike. Look after the family. We'll help you find one when the time is right. !! MOT3 might donate his to the cause.

Thanks guys.

cancer is an odd thing to talk about. in our instance it sounds much worse than it actually is. its like an oxmoron disease - whilst the cancer is thriving donna didn't feel ill at all. but once you start treatment to get rid of it your hair falls out, your immune system takes a kicking etc and once its finally gone you feel like death warmed up... Fortunately for us, donna wasn't ill from the treatments (so far fingers crossed) she just got more tired. her hair fell out, (you get a free with curtisy of the NHS) but she wore her wig once, felt so self concious she never bothered wearing it again. her thought was that she wasn't embarrassed about having no hair, if other people were or stared at her then they could just f*ck off. We very quickly considered her cancer to be a mere inconvenience and nothing more. in times like this its your attitude to life that determines how you will cope. if you let it get on top of you or defeat you then you will suffer for a long time.

As for the the yearning for the bike... well, consider it to be my personal outlet.

Eoghan

I notice you have an XJR.

Noble machine that it is, maybe it would sacrifice itself for the greater good and bow to the holy grail that will replace it, namely, a beautiful Speed Triple.

Food for thought.....
