I have the Triumph/Sebring 3-1 on my 1996 S3 and I love it. However, they are now hard to find- and expensive if you do find one...

I have both the Sebring and the Yosh systems! Both with Aluminium cans. The diameter of the Sebring can is larger by about 1/2" (without going to look), so there's a different pitch/flavour - to the exhaust notes. The Yosh, being 'less deep' than the Sebring can - packing material being equal. The headers are different, inasmuch as the collector of the Yosh is further down than the Sebring's, which is very much closer to the manifold - both entanglements are different. I've always found the Yosh to be more substantial in hp and drive-abilty gains, noticeably in the mid range and consequentially spreading over to the top end - the Sebring, gains from stock at the upper realms though a little harder to get right else where(that might just be me)! The Sebring does however give you access to the oil filter with out hassle, the Yosh doesn't - requiring removal. Ease, or Sound!?? - might be a basis - the Yosh is a better performer, the sound is a little more raspy but when the packing blows out of the Sebring it sounds so Classic (maybe at a little loss of power, unless exploited?). If you're after the best header, it's the Yosh - for performance. In my Florida days, a buddy had the Yosh system but with a Carbon F can - outrageous roarhtttt to it at about 7K, complete tonal change - as if the fibre was giving it a richer timbre. If you want a good looking Stainless system, with a Triumph plate on the Can, making it look kinda stock, with oil filter access and the knowledge it's the Official Race pipe - then it's The Sebring. Both very good, the Sebring being better built, approx. same weight which is about 10lbs(?), 25lbs or so less from oem. Put it this way, the Sebring is more
'Boutique', than the Race inspired Yosh! Gains are greater with the Yosh but it's hard to live with - the Modest gains of the Sebring plus it's other benefits make it a favourite, still.
There are other Systems about, Remus does(?) a very nice piece of 'tut', Hinckley has one I believe, Staintune, not sure if D&D ever did a full system(cans are so loud ), TTS(UK) which ultimately became the Yosh, Jack Lilley did one. There were many and quite where they went I do not know. Someone has to have access to all the header designs for a T300 bike, or at least some race bikes, where all the pipe configuring began. Most of the old pictures on the web from early on ( Speed Triple Challenge Mobil series 94-96 ) seem to have dissappeared - like history being forgotten, perhaps a research project for a dedicated soul. So really it's got to be what's available, that will limit the choice. What are the Sebrings going for nowerdays, they were $900? The Yosh - $475! But it's also a question of where do you take it all - the Sebring is always worth it's price and the Yosh.... if you can find it!

What is the cheapest 3-1 system that does not affect the passenger pegs? Preferably an American vendor.

Cheers!

Who still makes/has them, you may very well ask! I didn't like their cans but these reverse cones look good -

http://www.danddexhaust.com/catalog/2005/07/90013s.htm

- maybe they still do a header, maybe they even have the pattern still and would make one/some! I believe they were the only US made pipe - "LOUD" system with there cans though????? It's really a question of what you're prepared to pay, if at all, for what becomes available. Word of mouth, Google, Ebay, craig's list, Triumphant.com, Baxters perhaps, Bike bandit etc....breakers yards, local T dealer - some sources .... these pipes are not exactly readily available. I want to be able say that the Sebring will fit with the passenger peg brackets, though I think not - Staintune maybe, but they're typically costly. Don't the T509 headers fit, I remember a recent thread on the topic - that opens the door a little to other options. Either way, whatever the header/can configuration, to reap any rewards in drivability and performance, a trip to the dyno is a good investment - especially if you know the guy! It's prudent to also get a dyno run with the stock pipe first, before you upgrade, or what is the yardstick? Maybe you don't care and just need a replacement for whatever reason - still an efficient engine will save you money and worth doing shortly after replacing the airfilter or a 100 miles on a newly oiled K&N(don't want any false jetting) blahblahblah!

sebring exhaust....

My sebring dont interfeer with the pillion pegs. Its bit closer to the peg but not by much. Also as i understand it (i may be wrong) they were fitted to speed triples during the speed triple seris, and they wernt allowed o alter the jetting from standerd, so the pipes were tuned to standard jetting.

Hey Tryp, I was under the impression that the T3 Classic exhausts wouldn't work with the sporty T3 bikes. Do you know for sure that that D&D for the TBS works? I definitely like the look!

Cheers,
-Kit

We do a nice stainless 3-1 with a choice of cans - www.trident-exhausts.com
Fits properly, doesn't get in the way of the oil drain and filter etc
Lasts forever in stainless and works really well
