Is My Transmission Dying?

For the first time in weeks I had a chance to go riding. The S3 starts on the second try and I'm off. Only to find out that I can't downshift past 3rd gear. No 2nd, Neutral, or 1st. Motor running or not, clutch in or out, moving or stopped- it makes no difference. Tried pulling it up by hand; no joy. Any ideas? Thanks!

div2,
If your sure the clutch is ok, check shift and neutral detent cam springs(behind clutch drum). Everything else related to the shifting mechanism requires spliting the crank case.

Transmissions don't just go! If she was fine when you put her away the last time - I would imagine that the clutch hydraulics need attention - I'd also check chain adjustment while I was at it.

Thanks, I'll check out the clutch and chain when I'm in a more patient mood; right now it seems that almost every internal combustion powered device I own is having "issues".

Try disconnecting the linkage on the gear lever to make sure it travels smoothly. If it's binding up at all, you will have the symptoms described.

Problem solved. Checked the linkage and everything looked fine. Turns out that the problem was a brain fart of monumental proportions. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...
Regardless, thanks for the prompt replies and suggestions. T3s Forever!
