to cool or not to cool?

Hi,

I've been busy trying to get my '93 Daytona back on the road again.
It was running poor last year and could do some good maintenance so I rebuild the Mikuni's (I wish my girlfriend was that dirty), installed a K&N filter and a 3-1 Shark exhaust system, checked the coils, changed the plugs and oil.

While I was busy with the shark3-1 the oil oil cooler hoses began to leak so I have to replace them too, but I wonder If the the cooler is needed at all because these triumph take ages too warm up.

So is anyone riding a daytona whitout oil cooler with succes???

And do you have to connect the two left over plugs???

Thanks, Ralph

The Speed Triples came without the cooler and have the same engine set up as the Daytona..I can only think that they thought the Daytona would get a bit hotter because of the fairing...maybe, I wouldn't have any worries ditching the cooler if it were me..

Hi Ralph,

My Sprint runs fine without an oil cooler and the summer here in Australia is much hotter than you would experience in your part of the world. I would say you could safely run without it.

Cheers,

Roden

Hey Ralph - have you got any pics and additional info for the Shark 3 into 1?

We would like to see your bike!

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply's,

Changes are that i'm going to ditch the cooler, buy a oil temp gauge and try it for a while.
But what to do whit the two holes in the lower engine case, I assume that they have to be connected, so if one of you guys will check how it's done on a speed triple or sprint I will be very thankfull.

I will even post some pics of the shark:-)

Thanks, Ralph

I just had a look at my Sprint and I can't see where an oil cooler would be connected, the Haynes manual is not clear either. Maybe the Daytona has a different crankcase to the other bikes.

So from that I don't know if you can simply cap the plugs or you may have to connect with a hose.

Can you shed any light Mot?

Pass..? my guess is that as oil comes in one side and goes out the other that a hose is required..there is an external oil pipe on the base of the sump just in front of the oil filter houseing...is your oil cooler connected at two points just in front of the oil cooler..if it is you can then ditch the oil cooler and retro fit the bypass pipe ???

Thanks motT3, so I have to find a external oil pipe.

What bothers me a bit is that I can't find anything about this external hose in the Haynes or on www.bikebandit.com.

I would also like to know more about your shark 3-1 exhaust system. Where did you purchase it and for how much?
