Street tyre pressures

My 96 Daytona is fitted with Bridgestone Battleaxe BT 021R.
What are peoples opinions on the correct tyre pressures front and rear for solo and two up, as I have had conflicting advice from Triumph and the tyre manufacturer info?

Hi Mate,

I'm running 36psi front 41psi rear, as per the book. It feels ok to me for my riding style, I haven't found a need to change the pressures yet. I don't do much two up if any, I just carry a gear sack.
I run Bridgestone BT54 on the rear, Conti Road Attack on the front.

What pressures are you running?

Tyre pressure is a trade off....

Less pressure = bigger contact patch and less stability
higher pressure = less contact patch but more stability

Unless you travel and corner at high speed 120mph+ i would opt for a couple of psi lower than the recomended rate at the back and maybe 1psi lower at the front.

For 1 up riding hard in the highlands i have mine set at 35psi front and 39psi rear. i have not lost the rear yet and have whitnesed no stability problems.

When taking my girlfriend on the back i raise the rear to 41psi.

36 psi at the front has allowed most of the tires that I have run, including the Bridgestone BT 020, to cup. 38 psi has alleviated that problem. I've alway run 41 in the rear.

Pilot Power Michelins are the best street tires I have used to date. I only ride solo with 36 psi at the front and 41 at the rear.

Lower pressures facilitate higher tire temperatures which facilitates track requirements. Pirelli's for the track though as a good street tire does not make a good track tire.

36 - 41 has always served me well on the street. I have had the rear step up a few times, but only during some spirited riding on some twisties. I think as long as you aren't hammering on the tyres (like at the track), the stock pressures work just fine.

Not like it's a huge difference or anything, but isn't 36 front 42 rear standard? Where's everyone getting 41 rear from?

Cheers,
-Kit

Hi Kit, 41 rear according to my Haynes Manual. Seems ok at that pressure, i guess its only a guide at the end of the day.

Cheers,

Roden

I just fitted Pirelli Diablos to my S3($159 for both tires; thanks Cycle Gear!). I'm going to run the stock pressures and go from there...
