Actually, I'd expect the oil light to come on at about 12,000 revs -- right after the pistons left the crankcase...
BUT SERIOUSLY...
I assume you mean 1600 rpm. It could be a bad pressure switch, bad oil, contaminated oil or a bunch of other things.
Check your oil first. If it's brown and foamy then you've got a leak from the water jacket into the oil -- possibly a head gasket or cylinder seal.
Check the level and smell the oil! If you smell gasoline and the level is too high then you've got leaking/stuck carb floats that are allowing fuel to flow into the cylinders.
If the oil is clean then it's time for a pressure switch.
Don't ride the bike until you get this sorted out. If the oil pressure is low or you've got contaminatioin from fuel or coolant you could be heading for a seizure.
