I have a confession to make
I put a deposit down on an 08 Matte Black Speed Triple. I read about the matte black last week and that pushed me over the edge. I will never sell my 96, so I'll still be knocking around here.
BTW, Roden has been sniffing around on the Speed Triple forum, so don't be surprised if he is about pull the trigger (if he hasn't already).

Ha ha, you are right! About the sniffing around that is. The orange S3 does it for me, man thats a nice bike. I won't be pulling the trigger on that one just yet though, wifey wants a new house first. I don't mind the one I'm in, keeps the rain off....
Congrats on taking the plunge on the Speedy.
If I had the luxury of being able to have two bikes though, I would be seriously swayed towards a Tiger for mostly practical reasons.
For a single bike household, the S3 wins hands down!
Cheers,
Roden

No apologies needed. Good luck with the 1050 S3. The new orange does it for me to along with the alloy-tapered bars, Brembo's, etc...

Best of luck fella. It's a difficult thing to resist - I was at the bike show last year; saw it, sat on it and felt my crotch stirring.... Possibly something to do with the female "sales" representative though.

The 1050 Speed Triple is pretty near the top of the list for bikes I'd own if I could have bikes just for pleasure. If I could have 2 pleasure bikes, they'd probably be a 1050 Speed Triple & an 848.
As it is, though, I'll be resurrecting the '96 for the track & using the '04 Sprint as my daily rider.
Enjoy your new toy!
Cheers,
-Kit

I've been sniffing around a lime green S3 at my local dealer, as well as the new Tiger. However, I should confess that I'm really, seriously considering a Yamaha GTS1000: the bike with no front forks.
Man, when my tax check comes in....

GTS 1k is a really cool machine, but I won't envy you if you buy it. I'd think about a newer one if it had stayed in production, but my understanding is that it was way ahead of its time & they pulled it before they got all the kinks worked out. It'll do if you want to really stand out in a crowd, though!
Cheers,
-Kit

I wish I still had my Sprint too, but the switch to an 07 S3 is an amazing upgrade in performance.
BTW, last I heard, the guy who bought my Sprint is still riding it. And it still makes the ominous rattle.

Well, I guess you'll just have to not envy me! I went on impulse and flew to San Francisco, bought it, and rode the 500 miles home. Of course, when I got home, my Sprint was pissed, and promptly snapped its speedometer cable! I can't blame it: It's been a fantastic bike, I promised her that I'd take her to 120,000 miles, and then I cheat on her.
But you're right in a sense: The GTS is much more together than you're giving credit for, but you're left saying, "What if?" A second generation would have been brilliant.
Or, to the point of the forum, what about a Saxon-Triumph?
I'll almost certainly sell the Sprint, since I don't need (and can't afford) two sport-touring rigs. But I'll still be around, because I figure they will still be building Speed Triples next year....
