Will they write it off?

Who has experience with the insurance companies?

I have a total of over $1700 in Triumph parts and nearly $600 in aftermarket parts. This does not include labour. The dealer cannot look at the bike until May 9th. I do not want the insurance company to write it off. How should I proceed?

Will they be willing to make a deal and perhaps give me a few dollars less than the threshold for writing if off? I am willing to take less than the cost of repairs just so I can keep my bike and not have a salvage title.

One more question. Will the tank and body panels come with decals already in place?

Your insurance company will send an adjuster out to look at the bike. If they determine that the damage warrants a total write-off, then there really isn't any reason to take it to the dealer, you are dealing with book values at that point to determine the settlement amount, not labor and parts costs.

Your settlement depends on the insurance company and probably the state that you live in. The most common is that if the insurance company totals the bike, they will allow you to buy it back at an amount determined by them (usually what they get from salvage companies). The process usually involves the title being marked salvage. I do know of someone with a 10 year old bike who bought the bike back and did not have to surrender the title for it to be marked salvage due to the vehicle age and the relatively low dollars involved. You might be as fortunate.

I dropped my '98 Sprint Sport. Damage: scratched fairing, bent front wheel, scratched engine cover. They totalled the bike. I felt their NADA quote for the payout was low, so I sent them some ads for comparable bikes, and they gave me the average of them ($1000 more then the NADA price). They also reimbursed me for all the accessories and safety equipment I was wearing. I was able to buy the bike back as well.

Due to its age, and since the safety of the bike was not compromised, the title is still clean.

hope this helps.

Good news. I actually talked to the bloke that makes the decisions. If I can repair the bike for less than 2700 it will not be written off. He used the KBB high value of 3900 to come up with his number.
To add a cherry on top, he said I could do my own labour and he would pay shop rates. Great result. It will not see the track again!!!!!!!!!

I sent the information to the insurance company. They responded with this; $2809.06 minus my deductible for a net of $2459.06. Thrilled is an understatement. I'm as giddy as a 12 year old school girl. I just ordered all the bits from Bike Bandit. Off for a Stella or 9 to celebrate................

Since I am not in the States this doesn't really effect me, but it would be nice to name the Insurance company so others can choose to use them. Most are such a pain to get a decent settelment from.

Regards,
Andrew
