Front Forks Setup Question

Somebody told me that my forks are supposed to extend past the top triple tree, is that correct? Mine are currently completely level with the top triple tree.

Cheers.

If you're the early bikes then it's 28mm top of yoke to top of fork tube

Yeah it's a 95'. Is that considered "early"?

It's the first year they were available in the States. I'd consider it early.

I glad somebody broached this subject. Are the forks for the '94 -'95 speed triples 28mm longer than the '96's? If not, then what is the difference in lengths between the '94 -'95's vs. the '96 model forks.

Ultimately, I would like to know if anyone has had success with dropping the clamps/raising the forks past the 'even' mark on the '96's. Anyone with experience here?

Yes the forks are longer....and dropping the forks 5-15mm would speed up the front end a little, experiment and see how you like it..

Thanks MOT. Everything I read says to keep 'em flush. I am so used to running sagged out front springs, that it feels like a chopper now with the stiffer (0.90KG) front springs. I will continue* working with the spacer length to get the correct sag with preload adjusters all the way out. I just needed to know if it's OK to drop the clamps/raise the forks on the '96 & what results other '96 model owners have realized doing this.

*Once my Speigler clutch line arrives on Monday...no testing 'til I have a clutch again.

Yes, Readmarx Roygrif and MotT3 have it right... 28mm above the top clamp for the '94 & '95 model Speed Triples.

My 96 sprint had the fork tubes up above the yolk when I bought it used five years ago.
I got a pair of Genmar risers, and they fit perfectly over the fork tube extending out from the yolk.
The risers were ordered for the 96 triumph specifically, so I suspect it is stock for them to be that high.
