Sorry about your bad luck Its not a problem normally. Might be wise to source a good replacement engine, you could be throwing good money after bad? Any 900 Trident or Daytona engine should fit(t3). Not sure about Tiger or T'bird? Good luck.

What a shame. As others have said, this is not a common issue for these engines. IMO I would be inclined to part it out, and then purchase another T3 series bike with a full service history.
I hate hearing stories like this, as you have clearly invested some hard earned cash into your current bike. Best of luck however it turns out.

Hi,
I'm not so sure about parting out. I was in the same position as you (blown 95 Trident) and researched ebay results. It seems the market is quite small for T3 parts in the U.S. Most parts do not sell, and you have listing fees. I ended up putting in a Tbird motor that I bought here for $350. They fit with a couple of issues to deal with. Ebay in England usually has very inexpensive parts but there is expensive shipping unless you have a way of getting the stuff oaver here. Are you sure the head is cracked ? That's very unusual. It could also be a bad head gaskit or a leaking cylinder base. How well does your mechanic know T3s ?

2ManyToys just did this on his Sprint Exec, I think it fit without too much problem. There are differences in power and torque but as far as I read, it didn't bother him too much.

Jacksf is right though, you wouldn't diagnose a cracked head until you pull it apart. It may very well be a head gasket or cylinder liner leaking which is all very fixable and you have already done the bottom end and camchain...

Cheers,

Roden

I would think somewhere in the neighborhood of $1000 is what you could get for the entire Trophy carcass as-is. Double that if you take it down to component parts. Triple it if you're willing to relist everything on eBay over the course of 6 months to a year.

I don't know if you can just swap the head from a T3 cruiser/classic bike onto your motor, but you might be able to. AFAIK, swapping your cams into a T-bird motor should give you the same characteristics as your Trophy motor.

Cheers, HTH,
-Kit

Triumph-ant in Wales usually has engines, rebuilt and warrantied. Might be worth emailing Sandy just to see. Website is www.triumph-ant.co.uk.

my swap was fairly easy. i had to change the shift linkage slightly. and the crankcase vent is on the left (instead of right),so there was a bit of creative routing for the hose.
the torque is very good in the midrange, i rarely run it to the redline,so i am not worried about twisting it tooo much.
the only other difference is 5 instead of a 6 speed.

OR, just make me a reasonable offer on my extra parts motor.

Robin
maybe i should put those cams in my legend motor???
