Footpeg problem

I have a 95 and the shifter footpeg (and so therefore the entire shift linkage assy) is loose. Can't tell what the attachment is on the backside as the swingarm blocks getting a look at it, much less get a finger on it or a wrench in there...
The peg swivels along it's axis as well as moves fore and aft, up/down.
Peeled the rubber plug (that goes through the shift bar) directly above the peg off, but no allen bolt like I was hoping to find. Is it a pressed bushing?
Anybody else had this problem?

A loose foot peg was the very first thing that I had to fix on my bike. There's a nut back behind there that you'll need to tighten up. Get your head under there with a flashlight and you'll see what's going on. It's tight clearances, perhaps only an open end wrench will fit, I don't fully remember.

I had mine come loose too. The nut is buried back there pretty good. I had to tighten mine roadside and it was not fun. Should be easier if you are in your garage and can remove stuff to get access. My lack of tools made this difficult.

Do the S3's have a more rear-set peg position than my '98 Sprint Sport?

If you look at the bracket, you'll see that it's angled & has 2 holes in it. The lower/forward hole was used for Trophies, Tridents, & Sprints. The upper/rear holes were for Daytonas & Speed Triples. I'm guessing the Sprint Exec used the lower holes & the Sprint Sport used the uppers.

Cheers,

Kit - My Sprint Sport uses the lower mounting position, by the way, how you doing?

Dwaldrop - Another problem with the shifters is that the ball joints (if thats the right term for them) connecting the linkages flog out. The slop in the joint translates to a lot of movement in the shifter, resulting in missed shifts etc.
They are riveted to the shifter so to replace would normally mean buying a new shifter! I drilled mine out and replaced it with a spherical ball joint. Works great and is cheap to do.

Cheers,

Roden

Here's a pic of mine (pardon the dirt, it needs a bath):

As you can see mine uses the lower position as well.

Looking at the bike reminded me that the biggest issue accessing the nut was the chain being in the way. Since I was roadside, I didn't want to loosen the chain to get it out of the way, but this should be easy enough to do in your garage. Good luck!

Oi, Roden! Other than guessing wrong, I'm doing pretty good.
