Neglected 93 Sprint - save her!

This 1993 Trident Sprint has had one careful owner from new. Unfortunately for it, that owner was me! Sometime in late 2003 or early 2004 I put it in the garage, popped on the disc lock and walked away from it. This week it emerged from the garage for the first time since then.

I don't know, I started working away from home, a couple of weeks turned into a couple of months, the battery died, I started driving everywhere, whoosh, a couple of years had passed, then I got the SV650. There are no excuses.

Anyway, there was no small amount of Plus Gas and swearing involved in getting the brakes unseized and the plastics off just to get it out and see what kind of hand I've been dealt. Lord only knows what the inside of the petrol tank and carbs look like.

BUT, with your help and a lot more swearing I think we can save this. I will keep you informed...

How many miles on your bike ? I guess it will be a long project, at least you can find cheap used parts in Britain. Good luck you bike killer.

Only 33,000 miles so just run in really. And I haven't killed her, she's just hurting a bit...

Welcome, Tiger. I've gotten pretty good at swearing since I got my Trident, so I'm sure we can help you get her back on the road!

Cheers,
-Kit

My wife has learned not to come out in the garage when the Sprint is in pieces. There are some things that just have to be talked back into place.

What a great project.
Enjoy the time it takes to get her back on the road knowing that you will have a kickin bike when you are done.
It is worth the effort.

Thanks folks. I got the carbs out today, with no swearing at all. It wasn't quite like Mr Haynes had it pictured but definitely a step on the road!

Having said that, only one drain screw would move and nothing drained out of it so heaven only knows what kind of congealed jelly is lurking in there. A mate is going to give them an ultrasound bath, whatever the bloody hell that is. Couldn't hurt, right?

I hope you have had the missus spank you silly for your neglect?

Yours looks a lot better than the T3 I bought as salvage last year. I've just finished getting it road worthy and got it MOT'd yesterday. Like other fellas have said above I reckon that you owe it to the old girl (the bike now) to carefully strip her down, caress, clean and lube (steady) all those moving parts and fill her up with fresh fluid and a give her a right old good ride!
