Whistle whilst I ride!

Here's one for you all - In addition to all the mechanical cacophony going on in my Sprint's lump, when cruising I get a kind of whistling sound happening.
I'm pretty sure its induction related, it disappears when I've got the hammer open or when on the over-run but is there when cruising.

It has always been there but now I am thinking about it more and its starting to annoy.

Normal? Not normal? I did a search but came up empty.

Anyone else get this 'whistle" at cruising speeds?

Cheers,

Roden

No experience on a Sprint I'm afraid but whenever I get annoying noises while driving cars I find that turning up the radio solves the problem.

Mad isn't it you hear something and tune into it....that makes it worse... chuck in a bit of paranioa and it can really annoy..!!!

Get louder cans !!!

I'm sure it will pass..another noise will appear soon and take your mind off it..I had something similar and was wondering if it had some thing to do with the chain and sprockets ???

My latest noise is the wine of the gear box (oh my god is it going to explode !!) but the best sound the engine makes is after a good hard work out...it runs really well for it..it really does come on song then.

I agree, it is a joyful thing when wound up. All the other noises are (I think) normal, I get the whine whilst pulling through the gears, I kind of like that one, reminds me of a V8 supercar! (We race those here in Oz)

This sound is carb related me thinks and probably a non issue and yes, I need louder cans, this always cured the engine noises on my Harleys!

How are you getting on with those cams?

Cheers,

Roden

No news yet..they are verifing the cam cover bolts from Triumph to see what went wrong before making a decision...? I am hopefull though.

To top it off the steering damper was too short as well should have been a 160mm item after a double check/mock up after a couple of points raised by GeoffE (thanks Geoff;-)

Worst case scenario is no settlement! but if the Sprint Sport turns out to be a pig then the cams and carbs could go into the S3 and break the rest ???

It will all turn out roses one way or the other...

Your Sprint would have to of been treated particularly harshly to deem it a write-off. It will probably need the "normal" stuff doing to turn into a decent ride. You will like it, just a different riding style and with the fairing, well suited to your weather conditions! It will also allow you to do some two up touring in comfort.

It could turn into a donor bike really easily though if it comes down to a choice between the two! Your S3 would be a hands down winner...
