Sprint bar/fairing clearance
Okay, still unclear on exactly what I'm going to do with the Trident, but if I turn it into a track bike, it's getting some kind of fairing. I think it would look really hot with Dunstall-style pipes (better, only one) & a Dunstall-style fairing from AirTech, but fabbing brackets seems like exactly the kind of giant pain in the, ahem, rear that I'd like to avoid. Soooo....
There's a pretty good chance I'll be getting a Sprint fairing, etc., & making a Sprident.
As those of you who have followed my story from the beginning will remember, I had put on a bar adapter & a set of euro-style bars just before the motor blew. Them bars ain't goin' to the track! I wanted something lower for the street, so I'll definitely want something lower for the track.
Finally, to the point: can I put Daytona clip-ons on a Sprint? What other options are there for low bars?
Thanks,
-Kit

Looking at the clearance I would have said not....but I could be wrong.....why not fit the top of a daytona fairing...that would fit clip ons and maybe look a little more purposfull...?

Kit,
IMO, a sprint or daytona fairing isn't going to provide you with the look you're going for. Much too angular.
I think a rounded cockpit fairing is what'll look hot on the dent. I know Lockhart Phillips has some general aftermarket types.
You could always take this as an opportunity to learn how to cast fiberglass and make your own!

MotT3- I have a deal lined up on a Sprint fairing with brackets, etc. I'd probably prefer the Daytona bits, but finding all of it ready to go like the Sprint fairing is unlikely.
Scott- I'm not looking for *another* project here, yeesh!!! Maybe you should learn fiberglass while I poke around inside the motor. Seriously, I know the Sprint fairing doesn't look like what I was describing before, but I like the look of the T3 Sprint so I'm willing to go in that direction. Also, this project is budget-driven, so I'll probably be making more than one "form follows wallet" decision.
Cheers,
-Kit

I ran out an took a look at the handlebar clearances on my Sprint just now. There is actually a fair bit of room around the bars. I think some "adjustable" bars like what is on your RS could get you down a couple of inches from where the stock Sprint 900 is set. I turned the bars each way to see where the closest point is. The attached photo is with the bars turned to the right against the stop. The closest thing is the clutch m.c. banjo bolt to the speedometer bezel.

Thanks, Marlin! It looks from the pic like it wouldn't really work with bars that mount under the triple, but something flush to slightly above would work?
I don't have adjustable bars on the RS, but I have that Storz adapter on the 'dent that might work with Clubmans....

For some reason I thought that the Sprint RS had clipons. Upon closer examination (via ebay) I see that they probably bolt to the upper clamp (attached ebay auction photo). If they could be used as a clipon, then they could be moved around to find the lowest position which appears to be roughly flat to about 1" above the upper triple clamp. Any thing lower than that will probably strike the fairing or pinch your fingers on the levers, depending on the lever angle.
POST ADDITION: Look at Lanesplitter's signature lines. He's using the Storz adapters with superbike bars.

Hey Kit, when I got the Tommaselli clip-ons, my original intention was to mount them on top of the triple clamp. There is ample fork tube sticking through to do this. Because of the adjustable risers, they would have worked fine with the fairing and could have adjusted lower than original Sprint Sports bars (which are in turn lower that standard Sprint bars).
They definitely would not have fitted below the triple clamp, as per the Daytona but then I decided to lose the fairing and installed them there anyway.
Incidentally, the Tommasellis are quality bars, adjustable every which way and reasonably priced. 43mm are available by special order, it took 6 weeks to get them from Italy which was ok with me and aligned with my budgetary constraints! The USofA is a bigger market so you might find 43's in stock there somewhere.
Cheers,
Roden

just a thought, but what about an Airtech fairing from the old 750 honda racers. it would probably give you the lokk you're searching for. also you could use clip-ons below the triple tree.

2manytoys--VX850? Looks like a fun project.
Kit, just looking at my Sprint I think anything below the triple tree would have clearance issues. If you want to keep the Storz adaptor you could try a straight drag bar, or like you said, the clubman bars. But if the end of the clubman bar was below the triple tree you still might have problems. If you decide to get rid of the Storz, let me know--you outbid me for it when it was on Ebay
