Air Tech Body Work Mounting

Well, I did a mock up of the single piece tail section yesterday on the triple. Aside from two small areas I had to modify, the piece fits fairly well.

I did manage to take a few pictures before my camera died- and I'll try to post them up tomorrow.

Anyway- I'm almost stuck with the last step. As you know, the stock plastics have tabs (for lack of a better description) which seat into the rubber gromets on the bike's frame. These tabs keep the body work tight, aligned and secure. Well, the new fiberglass body does not have these tabs, nor any other means of attachement.

What type of fasteners would any you recommend? Again, I have a few pictures which I'll post later but I'm not sure which direction to head in. Zues fasteners? Replicating tabs of some sort? Duct tape (j/k)?

If anyone has had experience with aftermarket fiberglass body sections please chime in.

Thanks

You could use Dzus fasteners, but you'd need to have a nut (preferably captive) on the other side of the of the tank mounts/subframe mounts/bit above the rider footrests.

It would be some work but make a clam shell casting of the factory panel tabs, reproduce them in 'glass and fiberglass them on the new bodywork.

My gut feeling would be that velcro would be a little too sticky so when it comes to removing a panel (especially at the front) cracking could occur..

How about magnets...like fridge magnets maybe ?

It's a tough one for sure..

Maybe the makers of the bodywork have some ideas?

Replied in the Modifications forum also...

E-Racing has the tabs that you are talking about that you can buy. Tell them that you are wanting the spacer tabs from the 07 GSXR600 kit that they sell. I think they are $10 per pair. Mount them to your fairings using urethane windshield adhesive or 2-part epoxy after roughing up the underside of your fiberglass.

ok, here's my $0.02:

Ski-Doo snowmobiles have a similar attachment (post thru a rubber grommet) but the clips are seperate pieces. You could pick up some of these clips from a Ski-Doo dealer for about $2 each and 2-part epoxy them onto the backside of your bodywork.

Here is a screenshot of the Ski-Doo microfiche:

Here is a link to the Microfiche:

Hope this helps.
