turn signals

My 98 trident has a problem with the turn signals a couple of weeks ago they started to work only every now and then when i signaled to turn ,after opening the switchgear up and not finding anything i moved on to the flasher which was located in the ducktail area and are sure the problem is the flasher unit but it seems to be connected to the top of the guard does anyone know how to remove the flasher unit and is there an aftermarket unit available.
Cheers.

I picked up a generic flasher relay from the local auto supply when mine went south. I brought the old one in with me & looked for one with the same rating & same numbers on the pins. It was ~$10 US, vs. ~$40 for the Triumph relay. It was not an exact fit into the retainer bracket; I had to zip-tie it in place.

As far as removing the relay from its retainer, I can't say that I remember the process. It's definitely simple; maybe unplug the connector & pull the relay straight up?

The part number of the relay I bought is in the interchangeable parts sticky thread, but I doubt it'll do you much good in Oz.

Cheers, HTH,
-Kit

The flasher unit has bein replaced with a aftermarket number now and the numbers on the pins are the same but my turn signals now seem to flash faster than they did before can anyone tell me if this can cause any problems.
Cheers.

I think I know

I think its a impedance/voltage mismatch thing. I'm not quite sure about the terminolgogy, but I'd guess the flasher and the light dont talk very well to each other. I bought my '96 Sprint with a broken right front turn signal, just had the post left, ground down to the ferring. I fabbed up a end , rigged a yellow LED flasher, now i get twice as fast flash on that side. When I switch lights from right to left, I get the same result...the proper light assembly blinks properly, the rigged one flashes too fast. It's annoying, but for the $8 fix, not annoying enough to jump throgh the "old sprint parts" flaming hoops of death.
