Like the title says , my trident is leaking oil after a long drive when i put it on the side stand. It's just a few drups , but it is leaking. And i can't find it , because it is very slow leaking. When i put it on the center stand , there is no more leaking. The leaking is near the oil filler cap on the bottom. It is not oil from filling , for sure. Anybody a idea what it can be
Possibly the clutch pushrod oil seal? Leaks when on the side stand because the oil level is raise on the left side of bike. When on centre stand the oil level will be below the oil seal.
I once thought I had oil leaking in that vicinity for a while. Then I realized it only happened after a freshly oiled chain. No leaks. It was just warm chain lube collecting on the front sprocket and draining off when I stopped and put it on the kick stand.
Had the symptoms you describe, and was driven to distraction trying to find the leak. read the post that has been referred to concerning ALL possible seal failures, and discovered the problem.
The starter motor O- ring, which has a very small cross-sectional area, had failed. Was surprised by this, as there is no disturbance to the seal as there is with the clutch rod going in and out, or the drive shaft rotating in the seal, etc.
Purchased one of these from my local Triumph dealer for the princely sum of one British Pound, and all is rosy in the garden.
My SP3 does the same thing, especially if I'm playing on it hard. I've found that it is blow-back oil from the breather hose. It collects in the airbox and when the bike is resting on the side stand, it pools in the corner and drips down on to my kickstand. makes for interesting conversation mostly. I actually stumbled on this thread looking for tips on re routing the breather hose and adding a mini breather filter. Anybody have any insight into this minor upgrade?
Further to my earlier post in this thread, maybe I shouldn't have been so smug about finding and rectifying (or so I thought!) the leak caused by the failure of the starter motor seal.
Since finding the leak, and changing the O-ring, the bike has done maybe 1000 miles. Been riding the bike to work each day, 5 miles round-trip, and had just noticed the area around the clutch slave cylinder looked a little'shiny'. Thought that was the problem, but further investigation found this...... (see photos).
Seems I must have trapped the O-ring on reassembly. Have now carefully refitted another one using plenty of rubber grease on the O-ring, and the internal surface where it enters the crankcase.
