Shock Length '96 S#?

Does anybody know the length of the stock rear shock?

Hagon shows 4 sizes ranging from 12-3/8, 5/8, 7/8 and 13" center to center. I don't have a center stand on the S3 (never will) and am looking to save myself some time by getting it in the mail before tearing it all down.

Nevermind. Found the length to be at 13". Ordered a Hagon and racetech front springs. Cheers!

Gordong65 don't know ....?? looks a bit like a one off type thing ?

Buckwheat..I have a Hagon off my 95 Speed Triple and it looks to be about 325mm between the eyes, the Ohlins I recently got has a spec sheet listed at 327mm, there is a little compensation that if a shock is too long you can grind off the centre stand lugs to allow for more travel ;-)

Thanks Mot. Those lengths are most near what the book specs out at 12-7/8" in shock length.

I found and spoke to a racer/mechanic who was involved with the '96 speed triple challenge series, Mickey Cohen (of Mickey Cohen Motorsports in Placentia, CA) suggesting the 13" shock for better/quicker turn-in. The ratio is 4:1 with the rear linkage, so a little goes a long way effecting seat height. The shock which came from the factory as the 'race shock' was a 13" length Proflex model. Good luck finding one of those!

OEM shock from something, I would guess. Aftermarket suppliers tend to plaster their name all over.

Gordong65. It might be a Sachs unit? Maybe a Ducati guy would recognize it.

It may be off a 1996 TRX 850 Yamaha

I was looking at the Speed Triple page on Wikipedia the other day which has a bit of a blurb on the Triumph resurrection.

Kayaba is mentioned as being the shock supplier for the T309 Speed Triple.

I can't vouch for the validity of this but the rest of the story seemed to be accurate.

If it is a Kayaba, which is a mass produced unit, wouldn't it open up some options from other bikes?

Cheers,

Roden
