My buddy has a 1996 Sprint with a possible cracked motor that's leaking coolant into the 3rd cylinder. It has other little problems so we were wondering if anyone knew weather a 2000 Legend engine would fit into the Sprint frame? There's a good buy out there for one with only 4000 miles. The cost is less than half than a shop might charge to repair the old engine (if even possible)
You posted in the forum for injected Sprints, but I'll move your post to the T3 area where it belongs. (Easy mistake to make, but the carbed Sprints are more similar to the other T3s than to the later Sprints.)
The short answer is yes, you can. The longer answer is slightly more complicated and I don't know the details. You may want to salvage the cams from the Sprint motor if possible.
Yes, you can interchange them. My friend put the motor out of a '97 Sprint into a '96 Thunderbird. Seems he had to do something with the shifting linkage, but said other than that it was pretty much plug and play. Keep in mind that the Sprint motor has several more horsepower than a Legend motor.
