Kit,

I'm really sorry to hear about it. I am paying about $195/month on a 5 year note.

The insurance is what I didn't expect. I'm paying about $400 more each year because of the Speed Triple's reputation as a fast machine. It's really only as fast as the rider-and I'm not that fast (usually...).

I wanted to get something that didn't have a fairing, that had some character, that was fun-with an edge. I also wanted a Triumph. The bike is far better at performing than I am at riding it. I have acclimated a great deal, but there is still performance I haven't tapped.

Actually, I forgot, the Sprint was making some chattering noise after the whole sprag clutch/old battery incident. I was just riding it waiting for it to let go-or for me to get a chance to better diagnose the noise. My wife asked what I was doing one weekend. I explained that I needed to figure out where the noise was comming from. She said, "Why don't you just sell it and buy something new?" How could I say no?

Thanks, Zip. I had already looked into insurance; that would be about $200/month for me (on a Tiger). Yea Brooklyn! (That's about a $2000/year jump over the 'dent.)

My question about why you bought the new one was rhetorical; I remembered your posting it earlier.

Insurance may cover some of this, & I could probably afford either the payments on a new bike or the insurance, but not both. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

Cheers,
-Kit

What can I say Kit? That sucks. I hope you can work things out but it sounds like more work than you can handle, without having a garage handy.

Kit,
You could allways pull the engine and do it in the kitchen. Been there, done that when I was younger and poorer. Kids thought it was fun, wife didn't find much humor in it though. ****, insurance getting that bad in NY? I'm glad I moved to Texas(grew up in Chenango County). My truck, car, and bike combined is appx $1200 per year. Welp, best of luck with it. Hope it all works out good and fast so you can get back to riding it.

Kit, sorry to hear that. That would be the equivalent of getting kicked in the cojones.

Thanks, Seumas.

Erv: I dodged a couple bullets with a couple women, & the only kid involved wasn't mine so no problems there. Getting the motor upstairs might be a problem, though, & it's just way too likely that my landlord's son would see me doing it.... I may have actually been in Chenango County a few weeks back. Went to a friend's country house somewhere in that general area, anyway. I may actually be moving about 80 miles SSE of you in a year or 2, but we'll see what happens with that....

LRH: Thanks, that's about what it feels like.

The local indie shop can fit my bike in on Wednesday. (I think literally, as in "there will be space in the shop then.") I'm looking at a couple hundred bucks to pull the head off & see if it's cracked, & another couple hundred to put it back together with a new gasket if it isn't. Wish me luck!

Also, if anybody's looking for parts let me know! I'll either be selling off spares to cover the repair bill or doing that other thing I really don't want to do, depending on whether it's the gasket or the head....

Cheers,
-Kit

Kit sorry to hear of your troubles. Lets hope it is the head gasket only and you will soon be back on the road. Be a real shame for a Trident to bite the dust Unlike Speed Triples and the like the Trident seems to be seen as the 'also ran' model. Mind that keeps the price down whih is great if you are buying not so good when selling

Thanks, Vicar. I did pick this bike up for cheap, but I've spent a fair bit on upgrades. It's sort of more a Speed Trophy than a Trident lately.

Cheers,
-Kit
