New Member seeks suspension upgrades
New member, first post. I have '96 Speed Triple. It's time to upgrade the suspension. Any recommendations on rear shocks as I'm leaning more towards the cost of Hagon over Penske or Ohlins. What about a front springs manufacturer...any suggestions. Points to previous threads welcomed.

Suspension
I went for a similar unit to Hagon that was "non adjustable" from EMC and new bushes, seals and progressive forksprings on my 1991 Trophy. The difference was really significant with the ride and roadholding greatly improved. Probably because the old units were worn out anyway but I get a smile whenever I ride it.

Good Stuff. Thanks for the vote of confidence there. It's really good to recognize others enjoying the experience.

I went for a Wilbers on the rear, cost about the same as the Hagon unit, adjustable for rebound and remote preload, and is absolutely fantatstic. Front end got progressive springs from WP, cost about 90 pounds sorted the front end nicely
Cheers

I went for the Hagon a few months back, early spring.
Great service from Dave Quinn cycles.
I was surprised how fast I rec'd the shock, about a week earlier than
I thought.
I have a 97 Sprint Sport. I'm on the 2X-3X size of life,
6ft+ and about 270.
Handles great solo or with luggage. No issues, as in leaks or squeaks.
The old shock was soft. This is controllable.
I've heard good about Wilbers and about the same price as a Hagon.
The install took a few hours, I did it with my bro in law, no dealer.

97,
I concur that the Hagon is a good economical replacement for the stock shock. I did the same thing for my 96 Daytona 1200. The service from Dave Quinn Cycles was second to none. I found that the stock spring that comes with the shock (rated to 660 lbs) was too soft for my 210 lb arse so he gladly swapped the spring for a stiffer 880 lb rated spring n/c.
I eventually came across a used Penske shock for a reasonable price and replaced my Hagon. The Penske is of course in a whole different class, fully adjustable, adjustable ride height, 40 clicks of dampening in stead if 6, remote reservoir, yada, yada, yada. If you go with the Hagon though you won't be disappointed. It's basically a very good OEM replacement, no better, no worse IMHO.

Front forks, I went with a complete rebuild with Racetech springs and Gold Valves, expensive but totally transformed the ride. Much better control and with a heavy bike like mine it made a big difference.

Hagon was my replacement choice....for the road it suits really rather well, I paid the extra and had remote hydrolic preload added as the misses likes to come out with me from time to time.
I can ride it pretty hard with this shock on, I have no complaints...you can see the problems I faced on fitting on my web sight if it helps you at all...
Bottom line is Hagon will do anythings else will cost but you get what you pay for..!

Just to add, that I wanted the Hagon for my bike, but the suppliers in Germany are Wilbers, and they don't seem to carry hagon monoshocks (probably cos they have their own at about the same price), so I got their unit instead

I'll play devils advocate. The Hagon that I fitted to my 95 Daytona was a total waste of money.
Fortunately, I had the sense to bin it and fit Ohlins, and while i was at it have Robert Taylor rework the front end that a Race Tech "expert" had screwed up.
Ya get what ya pay for. The money wasted on Hagon and Race Tech products would have gone 3/4 way to paying for the Ohlins.
I guess you live and learn.

Öhlins just struck me as WAY too pricey for a €2000 bike. I'll bet it's great, but at over half the price of the bike, it'd better be. I'm not sure they make them for the old Daytona anymore. Besides, I ride like a granny on valium, so i think it would just have been a slight case of overkill!
