On the way home from work the other day on the 1995 Speed Triple, I noticed an odd feeling coming from the back end on access/decel. Long story short, there was a ton of play in the wheel even though the axle bolts were plenty tight. Anyway, the hub bearings seemed like they popped out of the bore -- I can't verify, it could've happened during disassembly.
So as I'm set to install new bearings (locally sourced) using these Triumph equivalents:
* 3800016-T0301 = 6305-2RS (drive side) (62x25x17)
* 3800017-T0301 = 6304-2RS (brake side) (52x20x15)
* 3800018-T0301 = 6204-2RS (hub) (47x20x14)
I am questioning whether or not the PO/mechanic installed the hub spacer correctly. SO HERE'S THE QUESTION: does the spacer get inserted into the hub side or the brake side?
Inserting into the hub side seems to make sense because the opposite end with the two notches sits just about flush with the landing for the bearings on the opposite side. However, there seems to be a bit of side to side play to the collar when inserted this way.
When I drop the spacer into the brake side, it drops in nicely, but protrudes through the hub side bore a few millimeters such that I wouldn't be able to press the hub bearing in place. And, none of the bearings internal diameters are large enough to accommodate the spacer either, which is 27mm O.D.
Also, when disassembling the hubs and bearings, the collar of the spacer became dislodged from the tube section. Can I just press this back in place?
Any guidance here sure is appreciated.
