Hi All, I have a 2002 1200cc Trophy. After reading many of the threads on this fantastic site I would like to know if anybody has replaced or repaired the fuel tape on their bike.

I have the well documented symptoms of getting half a mile or so along the road and appear to run out of fuel. Turn to prime wait and away we go again.

This is a regular occurrence which I suspect is the fuel tap I checked the tank breather hose and that appears clear.

Once running I have no problems so I doubt the fuel filters are blocked but will check these when I look at the fuel tap.

Has anybody experience of replacing and or repairing the fuel tap ?

First thing to check before thinking about a rebuild, is to check the vacuum line from the carb to the tap. If it is misrouted and kinked then it would behave exactly as you describe; and you can join the growing crowd of us who have had this experience.

After the winter tune up in '06, I got about 1/2 mile from my house to have the old girl sputter and die. I pushed it to a safe place, and picked it up after work. I replaced the whole Mikuni Fuel Selector. I've never had another problem with it.

Godspeed,
Zip

Thanks Guys for your advice. I think I have found the fault which has fixed the stalling engine.

idahotb put me on to the fuel tank breather. I have a small black, cheap looking bit of plastic which is a non return valve from a 4" rubber tube running from the tank breather pipe.

This non return valve stops petrol pouring out in the event of a falling off.

I noted this small non return valve was lying on its side close to the rear shock adjuster which left it prone in closing when it should not have and therefore causing a vacuum in the fuel tank.

I have lengthened the short rubber pipe to a longer one allowing the non return valve to sit in a vertical position and that appears to have solved the problem.

Once again Thank You for all the good advice
