Is anyone aware of aftermarket steel braided lines for rear brake application. Specifically for a 95 Daytona 900?

In the year I've had the bike, the rear brake has always felt underpowered. (I know, I know..it's a heavy bike.) Short of replacing the caliper, I feel this is a good step toward increased braking power.

In the near future, I'm planning on a rear caliper rebuild and a thorough cleaning. I figure that I might as well replace with steel line at the same time.

I'm pretty sure Galfer makes a kit, but your best bet is to buy hose & fittings from Pegasus or somewhere similar.

Measure the length of the existing hose from end to end, then order a line that length or the next size up. You want the 3AN hose size. Get the kind that has a straight 3AN fitting on one end & a banjo on the other, since they don't sell 'em with banjos on both ends. Then you'll need a banjo fitting for the other end. Add 4 shiny new crush washers to your cart & you're out for under $40. Pegasus sells Goodridge lines, btw, so there's no question about the quality.

I find it pretty easy to lock up the rear on my bike, so I suspect your caliper overhaul will help. There's another thread here about caliper dust boots, also. Yours are just plain not there, so you might want to get some.

Cheers,
-Kit

An overhaul of the rear caliper is a twice yearly event as a matter of course, when I got my bike it was like you have said, nothing much...I ignored it for a while but the effort involved to strip it and rebuild turned out to be pretty comprehensive :???: I ended up with new pistons and seals, Pads and from there I thought sod it in form a penny...so I repaced the hose with Goodrich, plus stainless fittings, stainless bleed nipple, new mounting bolts and also sent the caliper body off to be powder coated too :-D

Now all I have to do is pop the pads out, clean the sliding pins and copper grease, clean the pistons, bleed and reassemble

I found the organic pads from EBC ok the HH sintered ones were a little over the top and locked the rear a little too easily for my liking. Oh and one more thing, the pad pins have a habbit of seizing in so if the allen heads look a little chewed replace them so future work will be hassel free ( had to drill mine out the first time round )

I thought the daytona came with SS hoses front and rear as standard? Have considered putting new goodridge hoses on, but am unsure as I keep hearing that stainless lines are supposed to last for donkeys years. That said, the lines are now 12 years old, so maybe I should just swap them over for new ones. I agree that the rear is a little underpowered, but I've just swapped the front for Tokico 6-pots and that made a hell of a difference. Do you reckon new lines would improve it even more then?

IIRC, they started putting stainless lines on US bikes in '96. I vaguely recall hearing somewhere that it was due to DoT regs. Supposedly, ss lines were not street-legal in the US until '96.

I don't think new lines will feel any different from your current lines. The Teflon inner hose in stainless lines simply doesn't expand with age (or pressure!) the way rubber does. (The Teflon is actually the point of these lines; the stainless braid is only there to protect the Teflon from cuts/punctures/abrasions/etc.)

Cheers,

I put an HEL braided line on my clutch. I called him on the phone. It fit like a charm.

The main reason I changed the hoses is because the banjos were starting to corrode, these bits were only plated on the original lines
