Dear all,

The right front fork from my '96 Sprint is leaking oil. So now I would like to renew the oil seal and oil from both forks. In my recently bought Haynes service & repair manual for Triples and Fours I have read/studied the way to repair the forks. But I have still a few questions about this repair job:
1. How many oil do I really need for a fork? Bought now 2 littre.
2. Does anyone have a more specific front fork detail, on page 6.9 (Haynes) I can see a detail but I really do not understand the way the front fork works.
3. What's the best way to unscrew the fork top bolt?
4. What's the best way to compress the spring so the fork top bolt can be screwed/tightened?

Many thanks in advance,
Dennis de Clerck

If you are taking the forks apart, which to change the seals is really the best thing to do (regardless of some short cut methods out there) you will need to undo the hex headed bolt at the bottom of the forks to allow you to separate the Tube and fork bottom.

I have found the absolute best way of doing this (without the use of air tools) is a 12v Impact wrench. I have been using these things for years and they have saved me much heartache and hair pulling.

They go for about $45 or there abouts and you can get them on Ebay amongst other places. You will be able to remove the bolt with just holding the assembly in your hand!
I wouldn't even entertain taking forks apart without one now, but thats just my opinion.

Hope this helps a bit
Cheers
