Hello there,

I'm quite puzzled with a problem with my friend's 750 trident, so if anybody has any suggestions..............

This low fuel light is giving us a headache.
According to te wiring diagram it is just a switch between earth and lamp which will close when it becomes dry, causing the lamp to light up.

Thing is, it doesn't.
First suspicion, faulty switch. My parts-guy ( 100% Triumph and ex-official importer ) has never-ever seen a broken switch. So, very unlikely a broken switch.

OK, second suspicion, dodgy earth-connection.
When we short-wire the two leads from the wiring harness however, the lamp will light up.
So, very unlikely a faulty earth.

( anybody still with me ?? )

OK, first suspicion again, maybe a faulty switch all along.
Got a used switch from another parts-guy.

To our surprise, this shows exactly the same symptoms as the with the original switch.
Sooooo, 2 very unlikely broken switches is a bit too unlikely to me.

Also we are not able to measure any difference in resistance between both switches, wether wet or dry.

Aaaaaarggh !

At € 100 for a switch is a bit too expensive just to buy a new one not nowing if this will solve anything.

What am I missing here ??

Hi, I have got exactly the same problem as you, I have tryed everything and still cannot solve this problem. Including changing the Fuel level sensor in the tank and setting up bypass wiring to no effect. I just hope someone comes back to on this one because it is a problem I to would like to solve. :???:

Honestly guys,
I think the low cost fix is to simply dial the trip meter to zero every time you fill up the tank and don't go beyond 110 statute miles before the next fuel stop.

If I read your posts correctly:

1 - The low level switch is in the tank?
2 - The switch is connected between 12v- ground and one side of the low fuel light (the other side of the lamp is connected to 12V+)?
3 - You have shorted out the wires in the harnes only and not the switch itself?

Q1 - Have you tried shorting out the switch itself as it might be faulty wiring?
Q2 - When you removed the switch, did the contacts open and close when placed in a bucket of water?

If answer it Q1 is yes then it has to be the switch. If it does not light the lamp when shorted at the switch then check your wiring.

If answer to Q2 is no then it has to be the switch.

If answer to Q2 is yes then check the switch mounting in the tank.

Regards, GG
