I have a question about the prolift rear shock for the speed triple challenge series. has anyone any experience with this shock. I have an opportunity to get one and have trying to save for a new rear shock for my 96 spd. 3. I have been considering the white power since the consenses is that it is pretty close to an ohlins they are around 624 from lindeman but this used shock is only about 100. part of me looks for the bargain the other half talks about the lack of knowledge on this shock and the fact that I don't know if it is rebuildable or if it is as good a quality. Anyone Know anything?!?
thx,
Terry Mc

Hi,

I'm sorry I cannot help with relevant knowledge about the Speed Triple Challenge shock, but I have a thought that you may wish to explore? I thought that one of the "standard" performance changes for the race bikes was to jack-up the rear of the bike, altering the overall steering geometry? This shock may be to match that altered geometry? (i.e. perhaps too radical for road usage?).

Fyi, I have a WP fully adjustable shock on my Sprint, and I have found it excellent.

Good luck.
Geoff

Are you looking into the one on ebay?

I had thought about it until I realized I was broke...

Geoff I understand what you are saying about the geometry and I will probably will wind up with the WP in the long run, I recently switched to michelin pilot powers and I am still adjusting to the way they speed up the steering with their triangulated profile. I like the fact that everything is adjustable including the remote preload if you spend the extra money. Did you get the remote? also I like the length adjustment if I did want to speed up the steering. What more insight have you on the WP is it pretty easy to get setup?

Travis, yes I was looking at the one on e bay, the last time I looked no has even bid yet, but usually everyone waits to the last minute and drops a bomb on your expected DEAL. I am still leaning toward the WP but the prolift shock could be a steal, there just isn't enough info yet.
thanks for responding maybe someone else will have some input. I called a buddy of mine that raced in the series but have not heard back yet, also knowing him he didn't spend anything more than he thought he needed to at the time.

Hi Terry,

If you wanted further advice on the S3 Challenge you could try Jack Lilley, as they took part in the series and also offered for sale a number of parts for the race bikes - they are very helpful (email & phone). JL also supply WP shocks.

[On adjusting the ride height, I think JL also offer adjustable dog-legs - but I would try adding 10mm to the pull-thru of the front forks first, to sharpen up the steering further].

My shock does have the reservoir/adjuster. I have removed the intake ducts (they did not appear to give any benefit) and attached it to the rail under the seat, where the duct would nornally route.

I have a mechanic friend who set the shock up for me. He won the Manx many years ago, and for him to set the suspension up for me, was too good an opportunity to pass up - I fitted the WP front progressive spings too.

Ciao,
Geoff
