hi,bit of a noob(passed my test yesterday).
i have a trident 900 which has been hybrided somewhat with various sprint stuff by a leeds motorcycle shop(uk).
i have been out on it today and have noticed a steady clunk when riding up to say 50mph(dont know if its there any higher mph as it has carbon can and is "nice" sound if loud),it is reminiscent of something sticking out of rear tyre and slowly but evenly twatting the mudguard, but isnt, all tyres ect are new.
i was wondering if it could be ,say, the drive sprocket being loose perhaps.thers doesnt appear to be any vibration or slap on pull away etc.
i just thought id ask first before i get involved in what appears to be a lengthy strip just to check.in case theres a known problem with triumph trident.
thank you. :???:

Can't think of what it might be. My best suggestion (until someone brighter comes along) is to take a passenger for a ride. You drive while they attempt to pinpoint this mysterious clunking sound. Good luck w/ it.

thanks for reply m8.
have had a look through the haynes and its seems possible though it also seems possible the actual shaft bearing itself mite be to blame, but then theres no oil leak etc.
i hate these sort of problems, soo hard to figure out,
got no chance of anyone getting brave enough to sit on the back either, lol.
hope its dry tommorow looks like a day with the toolbox.
cheers. :hammer:

Put it up on the centerstand, start at the front, grab everything, see if it moves, work your way to the back. If anythings loose you should be able to find it.

been a loong day so far lol,had it jacked up and found most of the bolts loose, lol,.all tight now.
took it for a spin, have sussed the clack creeps in about 5mph onewards,it only becomes noticeable under acceleration and disappears on throttle off(i think,it mite just be very quiet).
starting to worry a bit now lol.
had it open to a quick 100 and was all smooth an happy.

A stiff and/or badly worn chain can cause all kinds of noises. Put bike on stand and slowly rotate wheel while checking tension all the way - it will vary, but it shouldn't vary much if the chain is fine. It's better to have too much than too little slack. Listen after strange sounds and make sure the chain follow the sprockets smoothly.

Another possible cause could be a broken wheel bearing. I doubt it stems from the engine/gearbox, but you could of course never be certain.

hi,found it while taking old lump out today(boy, thats good fun, not)
it appears it was the primary sprocket not being bolted in place, looks like the nut had gone walkies and left the sprocket to do whatever it felt like, lucky there i think.
still,, nearly ready for new lump tommorow after a good cleanup round frame.
anyone in uk want a good running 900 lump with approx 65000 on the clock,im open to offers
