hi my speed triple has 25ooo thousand miles on the clock, so i thought it might be a good idea to change the air box. ever tryed just cleaning the air filter??? there seems to be a lot of striping involved just to do a simple job! Bought a new air box from ebay its for a 95 daytona does anyone know if its the same as for a speed triple 95 T300.

Heh. A simple job it's not! :hammer:

I purchased a good used airbox from eBay & cleaned & oiled the filter with PJ1 filter cleaner & oil. So far, so good. (It was pretty clean to begin with; the PO was converting to pods.)

AFAIK, the airboxes are the same for all of the sporty T3 models.

A search of the forum archives will turn up a few tips for the replacement procedure, but it's still a bit of a pain whatever you do.

HTH,
-Kit

You shouldn't have a problem with the daytona box.

It is a pain in the rear- the first time you do it. Take all the body work off- tank included. You have to loosen the air box, shove it back as far as you can, then take the carbs out. Then you'll finally have room to swap the boxes out.

What I did was put a K&N in the original air box and just sealed it up with some silicone. It wsa actually cheaper than buying the new assembly.

It's not so hard. Easy to do in an evening. You do have to remove pretty much everything except the back light though!

You dont actually need to replace the airbox; it's just that Triumph dont sell air filters separate from the airbox, the alternative is to use a K&N.

When I got my S3 it was running like *****; I stripped the airbox and found it full of gravel with the airfilter coated in tar. This seems to be quite common; something to do with the airbox design I guess. I would replace the airbox sooner rather than later. It cannt be good for the bike having so much sh!te in the airbox.

Take off tank & bodywork, disconnect throttle cables at handlebar, undo coils from frame, take out battery and remove airbox 'pods'. Undo carb clamps, disconnect choke, pull back airbox and squeeze carbs out sideways. Airbox can then be taken out forwards.

You're half way there!

Personally, at this point, I'd strip the carbs, replace all the o'rings, put 130/125/130 main jets in, lift the needles to 2nd highest position and turn pilot air screws to 2.5 turns out. I didn't and have had to strip the carbs a few times since until I got to this point!

Assembly, as the good book Haynes says, is the reversal of disassembly.

If I can help, drop me a mail. Good luck!

Speed Triple Airbox:

Mine was totally gunged up - Gravel, pebbles, sand you name it!

i guess the air intakes beside the rear wheel doesn't help cos all the dust spun up some of it will find its way in.

to relieve this problem I fitted two cheap paper air filters (about 56mm) over the snorkels. Doesnt seem to effect any negative response from engine, and what with the K&N inside the original should help that last longer. These fit under the side panels ok.
