Hi Folks.
Just wondering if any one knows of a supplier of plug leads for my 1993 Trident 750 as the previous owner seems to have cobbled a replacement up but the terminals on the coil end are looking decidedly dodgy. I have been quoted £66 by a dealer for a set and was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper source.

Hi Wavey, judging by the huge response to your thread I would say a cheaper source hasn't been found....yet.
2 weeks ago I had to replace my plug lead set on the 93Daytona, the 1st quote was $600NZ!!! Got a set for $239NZ, so still dearer than your quote. As for cobbling something up, you would be surprised at what is available from a major auto electrical supply outlet. I was going to go down this track to make a set of spares. But chickened out when told that the plug cap contains a suppressor and some form of resistor. The resistor part worried me as I didn't want to risk damaging any of the other ignition components. Not sure if the resistor bit is true or even if it would have an effect on anything, still making enquiries. Either way, there's a huge market just waiting for reasonably priced quality lead sets for triumph owners. I personally replace leads on my vehicles every 5-6 years. it's also one of the 1st things I do when I buy a used vehicle. Nothing worse than HT leads that break down in the wet of a cold winter......and usually on the wettest, darkest night!
Here's hoping other members have some more info.....

A little bit off topic, but not much.

This is one of the most amazing T300's I've ever seen. He calls it a T395 for various reasons. Note the coils he has fitted, no doubt with some difficulty and expense.

Check out the rest of the pictures here:

It was also shown in the back of this month's Torque magazine.

Wow, that coil mod is something! I would love to know how they did that, but it looks like they drilled & tapped the head to mount them...

Cheers,
-Kit

Sorry, I don't know him. Worse the web site is in Dutch, one of the many languages I'm not fluent in. I found it after seeing the one pic in the back of Torque.

If I'm not horribly mistaken those coils are off some kind of car. I'm not sure which, but they look familiar. This probably says something about the usability of aftermarket coils and wires of any kind.

Also, notice that the pictures were taken at different times. In one, the steering damper is mounted to the side, and in another it is mounted on the front in a very cool custom way.

Also, also, the exhaust gets progressively more color.
:-D

I'm going to have my buddy who works the counter at the auto parts store have a look at this site, to see if he can ID them. I am really conservative about deviations from stock on my Sprint, but this one looks so functional that I think I might go for it. (I think that I'll begin by looking around for a spare valve-cover, so that I don't have do the alterations there while mine is apart.) If they're really car coils, they probably sell for 30 bucks or so apiece, with no leads to go bad. Not too shabby a'tall.

Those coils are off of the first generation 955i motor, if you have one take it in to your budy at the auto shop. I think though that the coils will be application specific, because of the distance they have to extend into the head

Cheers

I was thinking about that. I suppose that you could adjust the valve cover deck-height by adding spacing material at the same time that you were making mounting arrangements for the coils.
