Question Torque settings confusion

1998 sprint,

Trying to understand what the Haynes book means by
stage 1......
stage 2......
stage 3......

for con-rods...

Is it in relation to cylinder head bolts?
it says

stage 1.......
stage 2 engines with alternator/starter clutch access cover
stage 2 engines without alternator starter clutch access cover...My Model, I can't see an access cover
stage 3........

Maybe you could type in exactly what it says so we can see context?

Generally, it's going to be unrelated to anything else and will mean tighten all bolts to stage 1 spec, then tighten all bolts to stage 2 spec, then tighten all bolts to stage 3 spec. (There's usually a pattern to follow as well.)

I think the access cover went away for maybe the '95 model year? Definitely long before '98, so yours shouldn't have had one from the factory.

Cheers,
-Kit

It's verbatim up to the torque settings which are different "with the access cover".

But I had done it as you have confirmed, 1,2 and then three. Thanks

What threw me was the access cover, but going through a few threads I found a few photos of the cover there talking about.

Crooky,

Did you down load a copy of the manual from the sprint site? I was looking at that the other day and it seemed to explain it a little more clearly. I have been double checking back and forth between the haynes one and the factory one.
