I'm looking at installing heated grips on my Trident and looking for a way to keep it clean when I noticed a small blanked plate on my RH control, above the start button. I was thinking that I might be able to fit a very small 3-position rocker switch in there and was wondering if anybody else has had the same idea and where did they get the part from?

Well, thanks to you, I'm looking at the same thing. I think I can mount a mini rocker switch in the space. I have found the perfect?? switch at a place called Philcap Electronics. I will call them on Monday to check stock, and should know about the installation by Wednesday.
The part is a Philmore mini rocker switch part number 30-656. This is a red rocker, but they also offer a black rocker, should you prefer. Keep in mind that these switches are not rated to run the grips directly. You will need to add a relay for each heat setting. The switch is an on-off-on configuration.
By the way, there is a small plate under the blank that doesn't seem to have a use. I just removed it, and there should be room for the switch. If not, I have also located a switch that has wires coming out of the body instead of terminals, but I haven't found a distributor, yet.
Hope all this helps, and I'll post more later. :-D

In the UK, this is where the headlight switch is mounted...

Headlight switch? Huh. I was riding the bike today and noticed that it looks EXACTLY like area for the turn signal switch from our LH control. I was thinking that I might be able to find the switch from a LH control and put it in the RH control (where the blanked panel is) and use a relay to give me on-off-on for 2-temp heated grips (Lo/Hi). Anybody have a spare LH control? I may take both apart (need to fix my highbeam trigger anyways) and see how the clearance looks in there..

Y'know, that's a really good idea! When the blanking plate is removed, there are detents that seem the same as the turn signals. Relays are required anyhow, so the turn signal switch should work fine. It would also cancel the heaters with a push. An elegant solution although the switch may be fairly expensive from Triumph.

I installed the switch today, and here's what I found. The turn signal switch probably won't work. The left pod is slightly wider than the right pod. The switch would lose one terminal if it was inserted in the right pod, so I doubt it would still work.
I bought a mini rocker switch at the electronics store, and fabbed a spacer for clearance at the terminals. A drop of super glue, and I now have a white surround at the switch with H and L on either side. The wires will fit inside the sleeve with the other wires, and the relays are mounted inside the fairing just ahead of the plug on the harness.

Wonder if you could order the headlight switch from a UK dealer....?
