Hi Guys I am still in the process of shopping around and have seen that the 900s 95-98ish seem to be going for @ $4000.00 at the top end and the sprint STs being newer of course go for more money, I've heard or read somewhere that the build and finish quality on the earlier 900s are superb I'm just wondering if the same quality is present on the 955 sprint st ?
Also would you Vintage 900 Sprint guys trade for a Sprint St if so why? I've heard there was the coil problem but other than that are there any issues with the 900s.
I guess what I'm thinking is if I find a decent 900 Sprint or exec with say 15,000 kms on it for @ $3500 and a 00 Sprint St with the same mileage for @ $5500 which bike would be the better buy and the more reliable bike.
Also is the 900 Trophy the same engine? Thanks again for any thoughts or advice

I've a '95 Sprint, and my wife has a '04 Sprint RS. The '95 has a better build quality, but that doesn't make a second generation Sprint a piece of junk. Early Sprints are quite heavy, and tend to be more "touring" biased than "sport". The later Sprints lean (no pun intended) toward "sport". Personally, I like my '95 better.......more comfortable over the long haul, and just a tad slower than the RS. Whatever way you go, you'll be happy with whatever Sprint you decide on. By the way, I know where my wife keeps the RS key.......yee haa!

You're probably a bit off on the price/mileage estimate. I bought my '98 Executive with 23,000 miles, Staintunes and some extras for $3250. So for 15,000km, you'd be looking at a bit more $CDN for a nice one.

Doesn't mean it can't be done, you'll just have to negotiate well and be patient.

I'm really happy with my 1st gen Sprint. I just described it this morning, on another forum, as being a bit like me:

A little old
A little fat
Carries lots of*****
Does the business when required

Hey, Sprintster. The RS is 20 bhp stronger, but doesn't feel THAT much quicker/faster than my '95. The '95 is stock (as is the RS); however, I've raised the needles one notch to richen it up a bit. Seems to help the "pull" in the mid range. As another before me said, it still rips when asked to, carries a lot of.....ah...."stuff", and is a comfortable old friend. After 10 years of ownership, I still love it!
