I'm looking at a '94 Trident with 76,495km on the clock (approx. 47,800 miles). It is a one owner and has been well cared for. I've seen all the service records. It has hard bags but no wind screen. The bike handles well and goes like stink! He's asking $4,200cdn for it (that's about $3,500us). Is that a good price? Anything special I should look for?

Thanks

I have seen them for less with less miles on them but it's not an outrageous price especially as it comes with luggage.
Things to look for.... hmm....well the rear shock should still be firm on the No2 setting, I'm a big bloke and mine held up well but some failed early ending up having to be set on 4 to give a decent ride.
If you are in a wet climate the floating calipers have a tendency to seize. This was the unmarked caliper the cure is a new mounting brackets. You can re-grease them which will keep 'em working OK for a while.
Again in wet climates, the clocks can collect condensation that can mark them permanently, not a big deal but I'm struggling really to think of things. My 1995 Trident did 55K with me and these are all the things I found.
Oh there was a fault with the main wiring harness where it ran round the headstock, check for wear on the tape and plastic cover. Turn the turn signals on and move the bars from lock to lock. If the harness is bad the signals will stop working on left lock I think it was. This can be fixed without renewing the harness. Normally though this fault showed up early in the bikes life and would have been dealt with under warranty.
That's about it that I can think of. Hope this helped. Excellent bikes I'd have another tomorrow :-D

FWIW, that's a lot higher than book value for that bike. KBB says retail for a '95 is US$3100, while Nada puts it at US$1950-2550 plus $100 for the bags. (Neither has info for '94 models for my Zip code, since they didn't come to the US 'til '95.)

Book value doesn't necessarily mean that much, but it can be quite useful. I was very, very fortunate in that I was able talk the PO of my bike down from KBB retail to Nada low. :-D (Good thing too, as even that cleaned out my bank account & then some.)

Anyway, my point with all this is that the owner iasking a lot for that bike & book value is a good tool for talking him down. Anything you should look for? A better price, but not a better bike.

HTH,
-Kit
