Technical query; when my bike (an early 92 Trident, 19k miles & IMHO a minter) is warmed up I get a light tapping noise from the engine. It doesn't seem to be coming from the tappets and sometimes its there & sometimes isn't. This thing idles well, goes like s**t off a shovel and otherwise makes no strange noises.
Suggestions oh fellow Triumph brethren?

Hello Boofbee & welcome.

Try some of the other posts on this Forum re engine noise. The 900Triple isa noisy beast!

Does this only occur at idle or when riding?

Could be completely normal such as the balancer shaft (2500 - 3500rpm) or be something like the infamous alternator rattle. Timing chain also a possibility.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the comments. Only get the tapping at idle when warm. Maybe I'm just too fussy and this sounds minor compared to some of the things that people experience.

If its minor, constant and consistant, I'd leave it and just keep listening for any changes.

Knocking/rattling would be more of concern.
