Does anyone know which other bikes cyl heads will fit my 96 Speedtriple? all of the gubbins are working so i could hopefully swap the cams over onto, say, a trident head, suitably sprayed, I know ! Im just not sure but it might have a warped head so if one comes up Id like to buy it rather than have mine skimmed.

Nah, CB750 doesn't have wet liners so it would overheat. :p

Seriously, to the best of my knowledge, all of the T3 triple heads will swap. I don't think it's been done much, though, so there may be gotchas of which we're not aware. Pre- and post-Cosworth comes to mind as a possible problem, as does the 4901/4902 VIN split where lots of stuff changed. Certainly, though, '95-up sport and touring heads should fit.

It's also worth noting that you can often find entire motors for less than the price of a head and a gasket set.

Cheers,

My experience of a 4 head is that when i started restoring my 1000cc Daytona was finding the cylinder head cracked through frost damage. I brought a 1200cc head from a trophy or something i forget i changed the cams over and ground in the valves skimmed the head and in she slotted. No problems. I did spray it silver to match the rest of the engine.
I can only imagine the triples are the same.
The only thing is was missing was 3 screw holes to put some allen screw in which were only on early heads, made no difference anyway as the head bolt hold it in. Get some new head bolts though if you are replacing the head.

Cheers guys, very helpful, I'll follow the advice about the head bolts. Pigboy, that Daytona looks lovely, I fancy one of those really early bikes . Ive had a look at that trident head, cheap enough right now, shame hes stood the mating surface on a concrete floor.
Thanks once again all.

As a fellow tv obsessive i quite understand, you must have been watching that steven segall thing where he looks like hes attacked by a taxidermist, anyway, thanks for the info Im hoping that I dont need it but it wont start very easilly , misfires on tickover after a couple of minutes and does its best to imitate Thomas The Tank Engine.

Plus No 2 plug thread seems cream crackered as well so its all pointing to one thing.

Go speak to Trev at Sprint Manufacturing. What Trev dont know about these Triumphs aint worth knowing. He has often sorted my problems when i explain the issue. First thing i would do is order the gasket kit (valve stem seals come with it) and take the head off. If you are losing coolant and having gunky oil ( i would do an oil change at the same time to clean any crap out of the oil) i would put money on a blown head gasket.

The best thing about Trev, is that he will listen and talk .. and if he doesn't know, he'll say so.

He is .. probably the toppest bloke in the sales side of motorcycling I've ever encountered.
Because lets face it, it's not exactly void of know it bastards in the UK is it? Well not at least down my way.

When i first rebuilt my 1000 Daytona it was getting very hot, i knew the chambers were clear as it had rebuilt it. Anyway after several flushes i called trev , the answer was the Radiator on the first 1000 were too small, fit a 1200 Rad and that will cure it. Trev didnt have one do suggested ebay so free advice, but i went back to spend again and again. Trev has even sent me parts on trial!
