Bass,

I've got a '97 Trident 900 w/mikunis that only gets 34 to 36 mpg. Air filter is clean, plugs are new and burn clean.

My '03 TBS (Kehins) gets 46 to 50 mpg.

My question is the same as yours - what's up with the lack of fuel economy?????

I plan on pulling the carbs off this winter to check jetting against stock.

I get 30MPG pretty consistently on my '96 Trident w/ Mikunis. With 89 octane seemingly steady at $3.10/Gallon here in NYC, any tips on improving that would be appreciated!

looks like the keihins are giving up to 10 more MPG! Let's get more feedback please and note your carbs. Thanks,

My '98 Sprint w/Keihins delivered low-to-mid-40s on my latest trip through CO/UT/ID carrying 300 lbs of rider and gear. The rear sprocket is a 45 tooth so there is a mild loss of economy. I do not ride slow.

Commuting on a mix of in town streets and 65 mph 4 lane I get a worst of 38. That includes many applications of liberal throttle per day.

Side note: The Keihin CV carbs are excellent at altitude also. I rode up Pikes Peak, altitude 14,110 I think. No balking or misfiring. Suprisingly good power actually.

However, the rear sprocket is a stock 43 tooth.

FWIW- Both my D1200 & TB have stock jetting, airboxes and sprockets. The D1200 has Mikunis and gets 35-36 mpg. I ride her more as a sport tourer. The TB has Keihens and gets 44-45mpg. Despite the obvious engine displacement differences I have heard the Mikunis are more thirsty. Ride safe! :-D

This is for all of you folks that have problems with the carbs on your older Triumphs or other bikes. If your bikes have Mikuni BST36 carbs you should be aware that these carbs have a problem with the slide and the part that the slide fits into. You can buy the slide, but not the other part.

This problem has been addressed in depth at the Suzuki GSX1100G Yahoo group (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/.../message/12626).
