Hi all
Its been a while since Ive been on here but I thought Id let you all know about the problems Ive been having with my `96 sprint 900.
To start with, when I braked hard, the engine cut out, which I could live with but was annoying. The a couple of months later, it would not tick over & run poorly in traffic (I have the daily grind from Essex to Central London every day, nearly 80 poxy miles round trip!!)
Anyway, it got so bad it was a nightmare to ride in traffic, so, rather than pay a garage (I dont trust them anyway), I had a go.
First I had a look at the carbs, & found the metal bar that operates the choke had come out of the plunger on carb no.3....ha ah I thought as this was holding the choke on carbs 1&2...nope still no good. Then I changed the pick up coil as it seems this goes faulty quite often.....still no good.
Next i had a look at the ignition coils & changed no.1...I found the existing coil was wired up incorrectlt, for some reason the low tension side is marked for polarity, & mine had the red wie going to -ve...ah ha I thought, but still no good.
Bugger I tought, Im going to have to take the carbs off again, not a task i take lightly.
I had heard the o rings that hold the floats into the carb body can perish, &***** me had they!! I changed these for some that were "near enough" & the old girl is running great again, the tickover isnt brilliant still but thats probably my carb balancing efforts not being too good.
Hope this long winded drivel helps someone else!!
Gary

Glad to hear she's running better. How did you balance your carbs? Does it still die when you brake hard? How does it run with a coil wired wrong? How many miles on her?

Fill us in.

I used a set of cheap vacuum gauges to (try to!) balance the carbs, the bikes done 22,000, though it had only done 4,000 miles in its first 8 years before I got it.
It didn`t seem to make any differance which way round the coils were wired up, & no I can brake as hard as I like now without the engine cutting out.
